posted Jul 13th, 2020 - The recent NSL News updates from the archives, including video footage of interviews and competition jumps, were always connecting events of the past with current events. The Shamrock Showdown 2006 was one of the high-profile competitions that created similar connections.

The interview with 4-way world champions Natasha Montgomery and Gary Smith, which was posted on July 8th, related to the same event. Their team DeLand Fire would win 4-way gold medals five months later at the FAI World Meet 2006.

The same Shamrock Showdown 2006 was a remarkable 4-way competition and had many different connections to current events that the NSL News will follow step by step. The lack of current events due to the corona virus crisis allows enough time to cover these interesting topics that have not received any attention in the past.

This time, the connection between the Shamrock Showdown 2006 and the present is created by the team that will represent the United States at the next FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving in Tanay next year, SDC Rhythm XP. The U.S. national team will try to copy what DeLand Fire did in 2006.

Teiwaz - CSC Sirens - Eva's Revenge at the Shamrock Showdown 2006

SDC Rhythm XP was not even on the leaderboard of the Shamrock Showdown 2006. The first and original Rhythm lineup (JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz, Laurent Beaudouin, Robert Chromy, Kevin Nafzger on camera) posted their first scores a year later at the same place and the same event, the Shamrock Showdown 2007.

However, each of the original team members was present at Skydive DeLand in 2006, including team founders JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz. They were spread out with different teams over the AAA and AA leaderboards. JaNette Lefkowitz had joined the all-female lineup of the CSC Sirens for the 2006 season of the Midwest Skydiving League, and for the AA/Intermediate Class competition of the USPA Nationals 2006.

Steve Lefkowitz had completed his AFF training in 2005, and his trainer and wife guided him to his first 4-way team, CSC Rubicon, who had no plans for the trip to Florida. The CSC Sirens did, and Steve Lefkowitz joined a pickup team for the meet in DeLand, Eva's Revenge.

His Rubicon team mate Laurent Beaudouin traveled to Florida, as well, and they both competed with Eva's Revenge, after their previous trip to Arizona for the A Class competition at the Valentine's Meet in February.

SDC Rhythm XP at the Shamrock Showdown 2007

The 4th member of the first SDC Rhythm XP lineup, player-coach Robert Chromy, attended the Shamrock Showdown 2006, as well. It was his home turf at Skydive DeLand, and he joined regional meets of the Florida Skydiving League regularly with the ever-changing Teiwaz lineups.

CSC Sirens and CSC Rubicon did not continue after the USPA Nationals 2006, and Robert Chromy did not have any serious team commitments at that time. The sprawling participation of the future Rhythm members across the Shamrock Showdown 2006 leaderboard and the other meets the same year eventually funneled into the first Rhythm lineup in 2007.

The Rhythm team career began at the Shamrock Showdown 2007 and has peaked with the first national championship title at the USPA Nationals 2019, still with JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz in the lineup.

SDC Rhythm XP did not return to DeLand until the Shamrock Showdown 2010. That's where they met Christy Frikken, who was near the end of the Perris Fury team story. Christy Frikken then joined JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz for three Rhythm years beginning in 2013. Now she is back, as the NSL News reported on May 19th, and together they will try to accomplish what DeLand Fire did in 2006...
