Did You Know...

... that the HayaBusa front piece is looking back at a decade of training and competition?

NMP PCH HayaBusa outdoor re-start in Illertissen, Germany
posted Jul 15th, 2020 - The latest NMP PCH HayaBusa update was a live conversation with the team on June 28th that was published a day later. The Belgian team had returned from their first outdoor training at Skydive Paranodon in Illertissen, Germany, after a long break due to the corona virus crisis.

It was the first outdoor training with the new lineup, Michele Silvi in David Grauwels' inside center slot, and his predecessor on camera. The same update included the first video footage filmed by the new team videographer.

The HayaBusa members said at that time that Belgium was ready to re-open business and allow most recreational activities, including those at skydiving centers and windtunnels. They were expecting to run their next training camp on home turf in Belgium, outdoors at Skydive Spa, and indoors in Belgium, as well.

Everything went as planned for NMP PCH HayaBusa, and David Grauwels said that the team has now passed the 100-jump mark. The complete lineup was available for an online update at the end of the training day on Wednesday, even though David Grauwels staid behind the camera most of the time, where he is home now.

NSL Live Talk with NMP PCH HayaBusa on 15 July 2020
HayaBusa front piece for a over a decade: Dennis Praet - Andy Grauwels
His brother Andy Grauwels said that he is already delivering world-class video coverage at this point in time.

The whole new lineup will need more time to catch up to their own previous performance level in front of the camera. The training of the block techniques and the complete dive pool takes naturally much more time.

However, the rear piece is making great progress, while the front piece has other opportunities for improvements. Michele Silvi explained that he is getting all the input and feedback from his piece partner that he needs. Jeroen "Bob" Nollet has won two world championship titles (2016 - 2018) as the HayaBusa tail.

The physics of the block techniques are different now, as the body size of the inside center has changed significantly. Michele Silvi and Jeroen Nollet are very similar in height and weight, compared to David Grauwels. Jeroen Nollet said that he can feel the differences in the physical part of the new piece-flying.

The three returning HayaBusa members are all happy with the progress of the new lineup, and rear piece partner Jeroen Nollet confirms it as the most important witness.

NMP PCH HayaBusa at the FAI World Meet 2008 in Maubeuge
NMP PCH HayaBusa in 2006: "Stronger and Faster than Ever"
It has never been easy for the HayaBusa rear piece to keep up with the extremely talented and well-matching front piece (Andy Grauwels - Outside Center, Dennis Praet - Point) since NMP PCH HayaBusa scrambled the slots in a new way at the end of the 2008 season. The Grauwels brothers used to be the front piece, David at outside center, Andy in the point slot. Sven Ibens (2003 - 2006) and Luc Verstrepen (2007 - 2008) were in HayaBusa's driver's seat in the early years and until the 2008 lineup won the first FAI medals.

David Grauwels moved to Inside Center, Andy Grauwels to Outside Center, when Waedong So became the new Point in 2009. Dennis Praet replaced Waedong So in 2010 and has been Andy Grauwels' piece partner ever since. The HayaBusa front piece is now looking back at a complete decade of training and competition together.

The rear piece changed again when Roy Janssen left after winning the first world championship title with HayaBusa in Prostejov 2014. That's when Jeroen Nollet became David Grauwels' piece partner in the tail slot. The latest personnel change is once again changing the rear piece.

Dennis Praet explained that he and Andy Grauwels are using their freefall time to work on their awareness level for details that they did not pay enough attention to at full HayaBusa speed. They know from their own experiences that the top speed will develop naturally for the whole team over time. "Stronger and Faster than Ever" used to be the HayaBusa slogan in the early years, and it may still count for the new lineup, as well...
