Did You Know...

... that Punky Fish overshadowed FS2022 Agera in Norway?

AAA Class awards at the Norwegian Nationals 2020
posted Aug 4th, 2020 - The NSL News mentioned a few times that Norway was the one and only country in the Formation Skydiving competition world this year that completed a national outdoor championship event, despite the corona virus crisis. Then the Czech Republic followed up last weekend with a 3-team event in Klatovy.

The story of the Norwegian Nationals 2020 began earlier with a preview of the event that the NSL News posted on June 16th. It was the team name "Punky Fish" that caught the NSL News attention at that time.

Three members of the Punky Fish lineups who were actively training and competing as player-coaches (Lise Aune Nansen, Pål Kolbenstvedt) or as "4-way students" (Ole Petr Hjelle) decided to have a reunion with a new Punky Fish member, Kjetil Nordin, at this year's national championship.

The plan materialized at the end of last month in Voss, Norway, and all four members won another Norwegian gold medal. All four team members have competed for Norway at FAI World Championships of Formation Skydiving in the past, and they would now be eligible to represent the country once again next year in Tanay.

The choice of the team name was critical. Lise Aune Nansen, Pål Kolbenstvedt and Ole Petr Hjelle have actually never competed together in any of the Punky Fish lineups. In fact, DeLand Norgies members Lise Aune Nansen and Pål Kolbenstvedt had the majority in last month's Punky Fish lineup. They have also won uncountable Norwegian 4-way outdoor gold medals in the past together, last time in 2017.

Ole Petr Hjelle (Arcteryx) and Kjetil Nordin (X3M4S Elements) might have been happy to compete for the DeLand Norgies, as well. However, the team name of the Norwegian bronze medal winners at the world meets in 1999, 2001 and 2003 is probably sacred and secured and can only be used when the original lineup (Torstein Valen, Carl-Erik Tuv) has a reunion.

Punky Fish are the new Norwegian 4-way champions, and some of the team members also added a Norwegian 8-way title to their collection.

The recent NSL News attention to Punky Fish overshadowed a team that was recognized and introduced with an update on March 16th. Agera FS2022 is probably the team that will travel to Tanay next year for Norway.

Agera FS2022 at the Norwegian Nationals 2020
The NSL Live Talk conversation with Agera FS2022 was recorded in March when the young Norwegian team visited Skydive DeLand for an outdoor training camp. Agera had arrived in the United States just before the U.S. government issued the travel ban for visitors from Europe, and they were able to complete their training camp.

The FAI Mondial 2020 had not been canceled at that time, while the 4-way project was already extended until 2022, as the new team name indicated. Agera may now have the opportunity to attend two world meets within the time-frame of their team commitment, the FAI Mondial 2020 in Tanay next August and then the FAI World Meet 2022 in Eloy, which is currently in consideration by FAI/ISC.

Agera's progression since the team project was launched in 2019 is impressive enough so far, and the additional year for training and competition practice is an unexpected bonus for a new team. Agera was close to the Norwegian 4-way legends in several rounds, and a cleaner score-sheet would have made it even more interesting.

The A Class leader-board is showing the second FS2020 team in 1st place, with Carl-Erik Tuv's daughter Christiane Wilhelmine Sørfjord Tuv in the lineup. Volare have not updated their team name to FS2022 yet, while three other teams have joined the 4-way project.
