Did You Know...

... that Lauren Byrd and SDMW NEXT launch new Indoor Cloud League team in the Midwest?

posted Aug 12th, 2020 - Many U.S. top competitors have their roots in the Midwest of the country, and it is no coincidence that SDC Rhythm XP have their summer headquarters at Skydive Chicago. The Chicagoland Skydiving Center was the host for the USPA Nationals 2018, and Skydive Midwest has been the home for SDMW NEXT, USPA Advanced Class champion of 2016.

The Midwest Skydiving League is one of the longest-standing leagues in the NSL Network. It was founded in 2001, with the first MWSL director Howy Hensen managing the events. SDC Rhythm XP is currently running the MWSL operation, and JaNette Lefkowitz guided a few teams to a restart last weekend. Skydive Midwest hosted the first 2020 meet, and the NSL News will follow up with scores and information soon.

The NSL News reported on January 1st that the Skydive Midwest home team, NEXT, would have a comeback in 2020, after a 2-year break. The first NSL News update of the year recalled that NEXT had continued for one year and competed in the 4-way Open Class at the USPA Nationals 2017 before going into hibernation.

The news of the team's comeback with a different lineup came together with an update of Paraclete XP's Indoor Cloud League scores and videos for December 2019. The new NEXT lineup was training in Raeford while Morgan Womble and Lauren Byrd were hosting Paraclete XP's December event.

Lauren Byrd had just begun to work together with Morgan Womble, after Jessia Haugaard moved to the Northern Plains earlier last year. Lauren Byrd was also one of the two new NEXT members, joining in the point slot. Greg Oldendick replaced Matt Congdon as the new outside center. Megan George and Chris Haslam were in the original lineup of 2015.

All members of the new NEXT lineup knew each other from earlier Indoor Cloud League events at Paraclete, as well, and December's ICL sequences were an opportunity to post the first scores and videos of the new lineup. SDMW NEXT was in full indoor training at that time, as they were planning to compete at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2020.

Paraclete XP's ICL organizers Morgan Womble and Lauren Byrd also knew each other well after two years with the U.S. national team in 4-way Women for the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018, Phoenix XP. Lauren Byrd's new NEXT team mate and front piece partner Megan George was in the Phoenix lineup, as well, when she filled the slot after Morgan Womble's injury in the world meet year. Morgan Womble then continued with XPG4 when the new lineup was looking for a new team member in the tail slot.

Morgan Womble found a new ICL management partner for the Indoor Cloud League at Paraclete XP with her XPG4 team mate Jeana Billings after Lauren Byrd joined SDMW NEXT and moved to the Midwest.

Lauren Byrd on her end, and with her new team, is now bringing all of her Indoor Cloud League experiences to the new area in the Midwest. She recently announced the formation of a new Indoor Cloud League team for the Midwest area. She said that SDMW NEXT has already established a good relationship with iFLY Rosemont, where the team conduct their indoor training.

She has scheduled the first Indoor Cloud League event for August 26th. The new Facebook page of the Midwest Indoor Cloud League will offer information how to join the team and become a participant of the events.

It will probably not take too long until former team mates and ICL organizers Morgan Womble and Lauren Byrd will post their scores and videos for different ICL teams on the same leaderboard. XPG4 and SDMW NEXT had their first showdown already at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2020, and there will be more, indoors and outdoors, XPG4 then with the new lineup.
