Did You Know...

... that three former VAF Warriors won again in Denmark?

Kjetil Nordin with Punky Fish at the Norwegian Nationals 2020
posted Aug 21st, 2020 - Denmark was the third European and second Scandinavian country that held national outdoor championships this year, after the Czech Republic and Norway did so in July. Finland also hosted a live indoor competition in June.

France is the next country with national outdoor championships this weekend, and the national A- and B-teams are participating at the event in St. Florentin.

The Danish outdoor nationals featured an exciting battle for the 1st place between the defending champions, the military CISM lineup, with members of former Danish national 4-way teams. Main opponent was Sky4LL, who had finished in 3rd place last year. There was still a third team that was within striking distance here and there. In fact, Subsonic won Round 9 and tied the winner in two more rounds.

It was once again Veloce QRF member Kjetil Nordin who guided and pushed the new AAA Class team to the 9.0 performance at the team's first meet in this category. Subsonic was still competing in the A Class last year. Simon Markussen was not available, and Kjetil Nordin stepped in. Kjetil Nordin had returned to Denmark after winning the Norwegian Outdoor Nationals 2020 with Punky Fish, as the NSL News had reported on August 4th.

Pangaea for Denmark at the FAI Word Meet 2016
It would have been unique for a Formation Skydiving competitor to win national championship titles in two different countries in the same year. Kjetil Nordin has Norwegian and Danish passports and is eligible to win officially in both Scandinavian countries. He would not be eligible to compete with two national teams at any FAI/ISC events.

He had competed with the Norwegian national 4-way team X3M4S Elements at the FAI World Meet 2010, and he would be eligible to compete for Norway again at the FAI Mondial 2020 after winning with Punky Fish this year. However, the Norwegian skydiving federation has already selected Agera FS 2022 as the national team for the FAI event in Tanay next year.

Kjetil Nordin's Pangaea All Stars had in fact defeated the Danish CISM team at the Danish Nationals 2018, but no team from Denmark attended FAI/ISC events in 2018 or 2019.

Sky4LL was still competing in the A Class when Pangaea All Stars won the AAA Class competition in Denmark in 2018. Next they finished more than two average points (11.4 - 13.6) behind CISM Danmark at the team's first year in the AAA Class competition of 2019. Now they gave the defending champions a 4-point battle for this year's 4-way title.

VAF Warriors for Denmark at the FAI World Meet 2014
Kjetil Nordin believes that Subsonic will have a similar progression as Sky4LL and become a contender for the 4-way top spot in Denmark soon. They trained mostly in 8-way with Kjetil Nordin last year. One hour of tunnel time and 15 jumps then lifted them to the 10.2 average in the A Class. This year, they completed three hours of tunnel training before the corona virus break and 12 training jumps with two different substitutes to get to the 9.0 average in the AAA Class.

Kjetil Nordin stepped into the Subsonic lineup for the Danish Nationals when team member Simon Markussen was deployed for a mission with the Danish military.

CISM Danmark was the lineup of the VAF Warriors, who were the Danish national 4-way team at the FAI World Meet 2014. Only Henning Skov was missing, and Anders Bang replaced him. Anne Mine Petersen was back after her hip surgery and took the point slot for easier exits. She used to be the inside center for the VAF Warriors, who still won the Danish Indoor Nationals last year.

FAI Judge and ESL Championship organizer Mike Pennock was in charge of judging in Denmark. He said that no Danish judges were available, and he traveled north from the Netherlands to help out with all events. He brought with him Dutch judge Tamara Vorst and Michaela Belde from Germany. Johnni Meyer was the only Danish judge in the Freeflying events.
