Did You Know...

... that the former Aerokart Ak'demie juniors are a step ahead of the HF Cubs?

French Outdoor Nationals 2020 in Saint-Florentin
posted Aug 21st, 2020 - France actually followed through with plans to run national championships in 4-way and 8-way Formation Skydiving competition this weekend, and the first scores are on the leaderboards.

Competition is taking place in the two traditional events of Formation Skydiving competition (4-way - 8-way), and six French teams are also using AA Class sequences for a second 4-way leaderboard. This AA Class leaderboard is probably the most interesting one, even though both French national teams in 4-way Open and 4-way Women are competing at the small event in Saint-Florentin.

It is actually not the complete 4-way Women lineup that posted the scores for the first two rounds on Friday. Aerodyne Cypres Maubeuge has national coach Mathieu Bernier in the lineup, which turns the team into a 4-way Open Class team for the moment.

The NSL News reported earlier this year that 4-way Women world champion Clementine Praet would neither continue with the French national team in 4-way Women nor in 8-way. Her world champion team mate of 2018, Pamela Lissajoux, was supposed to take her slot until the FAI Mondial 2020 in Tanay next year. Pamela Lissajoux was not available for the first two rounds, and Mathieu Bernier was helping out.

Mathieu Bernier is well trained, as he committed to fill the open slot in the 8-way lineup. He did not expect to compete in 4-way, as well, especially not in the 4-way Women lineup. Pamela Lissajoux is not training and competing in 8-way, and Mathieu Bernier completed the first two rounds with his three new 8-way team mates, Sophia Pecout, Christine Malnis and Gaelle Giesen.

The French 8-way team is not competing at the national championships. Several team members can be found in the other lineups, where they are guiding 8-way competitors through the national championships. Aurelien Lemaire, also new member of the French 4-way Open Class lineup, has joined forces with former 8-way world champion and team captain Manu Sarrazin for Mojo Pamiers.

Sophia Pecout and Christine Malnis are back in their Weembi Girls 8-way lineup for the competition, where they also join forces with two members of the French national indoor team in 4-way Women, Nephtys Weembi (Elise Poindron, Jessica Thebault). Both are also members of the French B-team, as the NSL News explained on July 26th. Kevin Mansion is guiding Huitgees as their 8-way player-coach, and Damien Gouriou is in charge of 9 Air Titi.

Aerokart Ak'demie juniors at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019
The French national team in 4-way Open is competing with the complete lineup and is within striking distance of the 4-way Women team with substitute Mathieu Bernier. The French 4-way Women team has had the upper hand in France in the recent years.

The AA Class leaderboard is probably the most interesting one, despite the situation with the national teams on the AAA Class leaderboard and the colorful 8-way lineups. Monaco Aerokart Maubeuge has the lead after three rounds, even after a score of zero points for the meet opener.

In fact, it is not only the zero for Round 1 that gives the scores a very different value. The team had serious difficulties with the exits and lost a lot of working time. Yet Monaco Aerokart Maubeuge has an unchallenged lead on the AA Class leaderboard.

It is not a big surprise that the team is not very familiar with exits from a jump plane. Four former 4-way juniors are behind the team name, which was Aerokart Ak'demie when they still competed in their own category at FAI/ISC indoor world meets and world cups. Tom Mattoni, Cameron Malie, Eliot and Oscar Massier are now jumping together from air planes as a 4-way team, and father Anthony Malie is filming the youngest 4-way team in the history of the sport. They are back in the AA Class after posting scores on AAA Class indoor leaderboards for a while. They are a step ahead of the HF Cubs at this point in time, and it seems like both teams will soon be back together on outdoor leaderboards...
