Did You Know...

... that Monaco Aerokart Maubeuge won the French AA Class title easily despite the exits?

Aerokart Ak'demie juniors in 2014
posted Aug 25th, 2020 - The NSL News has followed the youngest generation of 4-way competitors since wind tunnels offered opportunities for passionate parents and organizers to let children participate in the sport. Team Aeon's teenager Ellie McCoy then became the first 4-way junior in a senior lineup.

The new indoor world created a promising situation for the future of Formation Skydiving competition, as the youngest fliers could eventually turn into skydivers and jump from planes at some time down the road.

The 4-way junior project took on a new dimension when French organizers, coaches and parents realized the potential of a new generation of 4-way teams and competitors. They launched the Aerokart Ak'demie junior project, as the NSL News reported on 26 March 2014. It was the beginning of an amazing team story that came to a big milestone last weekend.

France, with 4-way world champions Amelie Tirman and Marin Ferre heading the Ak'demie project, were not alone with this vision. Jan Klapka launched a similar project in the Czech Republic almost at exactly the same time. The Czech 4-way junior project at the Hurricane Factory became an even more regular topic for the NSL News, as Jan Klapka gave the participants consistently the opportunity to learn about 4-way competition at the Indoor Cloud League and World Tunnel League events.

Aerokart Ak'demie juniors at the French Indoor Nationals 2017
However, the French 4-way junior project is now a step ahead of Jan Klapka's in the Czech Republic. Four former French juniors of the Aerokart Ak'demie school are behind the team name Monaco Aerokart Maubeuge. The new team name came with the first outdoor competition that the long-time team mates attended together at the French Nationals 2020.

The Monaco Indoor Team has taken the patronage of the team, and Aerokart, the windtunnel in Paris, is still supporting the former juniors who grew up at their facilities. The outdoor training has taken place at the skydiving center in Maubeuge, one of the hosts for the French national teams.

The incredible picture-book story, with the happy-end-milestone last weekend, began when the team members of the current lineup met as first participants of the Aerokart Ak'demie project. They were in different teams at the starting point in 2014. Eliot Massier and Tom Mattoni trained and competed together with Valentin Vazille and Noah Bereaux at the beginning.

Cameron Malie and Oscar Massier joined the second Ak'demie team in 2016. Oscar Massier was in a third Ak'demie junior team before, and Cameron Malie was a new 4-way junior when this lineup came together for the first time in March 2016.

The Monaco Aerokart Maubeuge lineup was still the second-ranked French junior team at that time. Aerokart Ak'demie 1, with Camille Paillard, Astryd Casimir, Nicolas Mary and Kylian Forsans, who is a current member and outdoor competitor of the Monaco senior team, were the best of the three junior teams until the end of 2016.

The results of the French Indoor Nationals 2017 changed the situation. Aerokart Ak'demie 2, now Monaco Aerokart Maubeuge, upset their junior friends and opponents and took the top position in a 10-round thriller on the top of the AA Class leaderboard.

Cameron Malie, Tom Mattoni, Eliot and Oscar Massier followed up successfully and won the 4-way Junior gold medals for France in October the same year at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2017 in Montreal. They could not repeat their success of 2017 two years later at the FAI Indoor World Meet at Weembi Lille. The HF Cubs had caught up and won the next set of 4-way Junior gold medals.

Monaco Aerokart Maubeuge and HF Cubs both moved on to outdoor training with their complete lineups, and the new French 4-way seniors won the AA Class championship title last weekend easily, despite the troubles with the exits...
