Did You Know...

... that the ICL Midwest team had a very strong start in August?

New lineup coming: Rusalky in 2020
posted Aug 31st, 2020 - The HF Cubs turned the internal AAA/AA competition with HF Flying Circus again in August. The still reigning 4-way Junior world champions were ahead in the first two months of the year (112 - 96) for the four sequences in January and February and before the implications of the corona virus crisis.

The Czech national team in 4-way Open then have had the upper hand since the teams resumed the Indoor Cloud League competition at the Hurricane Factory in May (143 - 131). It was once again a close competition between the two Czech teams in August, and the HF Cubs won both sequences by a point.

Jan Klapka reported from the Czech Republic that the youngest 4-way Women team in the world did not get much outdoor training in the past weeks. The HF Cubs have not trained and competed together as a 4-way team yet, as they are still working on their outdoor basics. The weather did not allow them to make much progress. However, nothing holds them back to show their 4-way skills in the Hurricane Factory and on the Indoor Cloud League leaderboard.

Not only the weather kept Jan Klapka from advancing outdoor training and competition. He also had to accommodate the summer vacation of all 4-way juniors once again somehow. The combination of corona virus restrictions and summer vacations of the families have been slowing down the 4-way activities more than usual.

Jan Klapka had to mix up the 4-way junior teams to perform the Rookie Class sequences (RRR - RR - R) at the only indoor camp for his youngest 4-way competitors in the summer time. Two Rusalky members (Veronika Podoubská, Lucie Novotná) joined forces with Krystýna Cejkova and Eliška Podoubská of the HF Juniors Invisible. They will also continue with Rusalky and returning members Alžbeta Opálková and Eliska Drechsler with the beginning of the next and coming indoor season.

Jan Klapka said that the weekly 4-way junior training will resume in September. He hopes that the Czech 4-way senior teams will also be back at the Hurricane Factory on a more regular basis.

The Czech Indoor Cloud League team will need their usual strong presence to maintain the top spot on the monthly ICL leaderboards. The NSL News reported on August 12th that Lauren Byrd and SDMW NEXT were planning to launch a new Indoor Cloud League team in the Midwest.

The August leaderboard is showing that they followed up on the plans and submitted a complete set of six scores and videos for the month of August. The scores also indicate that the Midwest team is not only planning to participate and introduce new 4-way competitors to the sport. The first total of 142 points is a serious challenge for the two top teams, Hurricane Factory and Paraclete XP.

SDMW NEXT, USPA Advanced Class champion of 2016, who came back with a new lineup at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2020 after a 2-year break, had scored for Paraclete XP's ICL team before. This time, they alone added a total of 50 points for the two Open Class sequences (AAA/AA) to the Midwest account.

It was significantly more compared to the Czech scoring numbers for August, and Paraclete XP will also need a strong showing on the same leaderboard to finish close to the total of 142 points.

SDMW NEXT members Lauren Byrd, Megan George, Greg Oldendick and Chris Haslam were also guiding the other lineups and participants through their first Indoor Cloud League experiences. Six different lineups took on the six sequences for the month of August, each of them with at least one NEXT member as player-coach.

Three of the six lineups eventually posted the six highscores, and SDMW NEXT outscored the HF Cubs by one point for the two Open Class sequences. The Paraclete XP team will soon follow up with their own numbers and videos for August.
