Did You Know...

... that Dennis Praet and Michele Silvi provided updates from Europe?

Dennis Praet with Black Mantis
posted Sep 16th, 2020 - NMP PCH HayaBusa is back in outdoor training on Belgian home turf at Skydive Spa, and Tuesday was a day off after the first three training days. Team members Dennis Praet (Point) and Michele Silvi, HayaBusa's new Inside Center, took some of their free time to provide an update from Belgium. The outdoor training continues with three more days beginning on Wednesday.

The HayaBusa videos of the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 were not available at this point in time. The 4-way world champions plan to perform the eleven sequences very soon.

Dennis Praet had updates from four different countries in Europe. The NSL News mentioned a few times that he has been coaching the new Austrian indoor and outdoor champions of Black Mantis, even though he has has not been able to visit the team recently. The situation is the same in his work with the Norwegian 4-way Women team Vossvind Girls, as travel regulations are still requiring a quarantine period between the two European countries.

He is also coaching the Dutch national 4-way team Out Of The Blue, who had a late start with training this year, as most of the other Formation Skydiving teams in the world. Out Of The Blue have completed almost 80 training jumps until now. Dennis Praet and Out Of The Blue re-defined goals and plans for the year together for the limited time.

Dennis Praet will focus on block drills and techniques, exits and random work with Out Of The Blue. It has been a long time since the Dutch team posted their last outdoor scores, which was in August 2019 at the national championship. Out of the Blue then attended three indoor meets between August 2019 and January 2020.

Team member Mandy Feijen said that it was a good time for the team to take a step back to the basics with no time pressure. She said that the restart was first a little bit awkward after the long break.

However, the team feeling and the confidence came back quickly. Out Of The Blue have two more weekends scheduled with Dennis Praet, where they will train together alongside ISR FireFlash, who work with coach Dennis Praet, as well.

The second Belgian world-class 4-way team is now back in outdoor action with Glenn Straeluyc, who needed enough recovery time after his injury. ISR FireFlash patiently waited after the last outdoor competition together in September 2018. Former ISR Thunder member Jacco van Eerden helped out at two indoor meets before Glenn Straeluyc was ready for indoor action and competed again with his team at the ISR Grand Prix 2019 and this year's Wind Games. ISR Fireflash now return to outdoor training and competition after a 2-year break.

Reigning Italian 4-way champions: Amnesya
Dennis Praet and Michele Silvi discussed the difference between indoor and outdoor training and competition and the transition back and forth between the two 4-way and 8-way environments during the NSL Live Talk.

The two youngest HayaBusa members grew up with windtunnels available as training tools. Michele Silvi said that he has spent much more flying time in windtunnel chambers than in freefall. It is important for him to focus primarily on his outdoor position as the Inside Center for the 4-way world champions. He is investing most of his own time trying to catch up with his team mates. He still had news from Italy, his former homeland, where the traditional duel between eX3mo and Amnesya seems to gain once again more momentum. Italy has still scheduled outdoor and indoor championships later this year.

The two HayaBusa members agreed that outdoor training and competition is much more challenging compared to indoor 4-way, and they talked about the details. Exit and sub-terminal pages cannot be simulated realistically in a flying chamber, and the parachute flight is missing, as well.

The transition between indoor and outdoor training and competition was another interesting topic. Dennis Praet and Michele Silvi agreed that it is relatively easy to get used to the flying chamber quickly, while the transition back to jumping from planes is a very different story. And then there are the former French and Czech 4-way juniors...
