Did You Know...

... that Michele Silvi explained a very different slot-switcher after his visit in Italy?

eX3MO versus Amnesya at the Italian Nationals 2017
posted Oct 8th, 2020 - The Italian Outdoor Nationals 2020 featured once again the usual duel between Amnesya and eX3MO, which has been the highlight of 4-way competition in Italy since Amnesya appeared on the national leaderboards in 2015. Giuseppe Cossu founded the team and is now the only original member in the current lineup.

Chiara Brunetti joined him a year later when the new 2016 lineup (Antonio Delogu, Antonio Nardelli) moved up into AAA Class competition. Michele Silvi began training and competing with Amnesya at the end of the same year and continued with Amnesya until the FAI Indoor World Cup 2018.

This lineup of 2017 - 2018 (Chiara Brunetti, Giuseppe Cossu, Mario Fatturoso, Michele Silvi) finished with a 21.0 average in 6th place at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018, and then with a bronze medal and a 28.0 average at the FAI Indoor World Cup 2018. That was the last event for Michele Silvi, who went into hibernation as a part of his preparations to move to Belgium and join NMP PCH HayaBusa.

Amnesya regrouped and defended the top spot in Italy successfully without Michele Silvi in 2019, first indoors (Chiara Brunetti, Giuseppe Cossu, Livio Piccolo, Ivan Quadrio), then two months later outdoors (Chiara Brunetti, Livio Piccolo, Ivan Quadrio, Alessandro Anderlucci, Francesco Borgogni on camera).

eX3MO finished in 2nd place at both events last year, and they were back for a new edition of the same duel last week in Fano. It was the first and probably the last outdoor competition in Italy this year.

Both Italian top contenders and seven additional teams, two in AAA and five in AA, could not train much this year.

However, they were eager and highly motivated to go back to 4-way competition, and Livio Piccolo's home DZ in Fano provided the minimum logistics to allow the event to happen.

Michele Silvi used a break in NMP PCH HayaBusa's training schedule to travel back to his former homeland and visited Italy's national championship event.

In fact, eX3MO had asked him for his advice, and he helped his former opponents to make it as difficult as possible for his former Amnesya team mates to defend the national title again successfully.

It turned out to become a 5-point battle over the ten rounds, and Michele Silvi recalled the exciting competition in the latest NSL Live Talk.

NSL Live Talk with NMP PCH HayaBusa member Michele Silvi
Italian 4-way outdoor champion 2020: Amnesya
He said that his former team won the competition in two of the three fastest sequences of the 10-round meet (5 and 7). Amnesya liked fast sequences already when he was still training and competing with the team, and it is not any different with NMP PCH HayaBusa, who are famous for their great performance when it comes to fast sequences.

However, eX3MO may have surprised and impressed Amnesya when they matched the 24-pointer for the meet opener, which would be the only round on the first meet day. eX3MO followed up next morning and even won Round 2 by a point. Both teams were still tied in 1st place after four rounds. The slot-switching and fast sequence of Round 5 then became the heavy blow that eX3MO did not recover from until the last round.

Michele Silvi said that a Pilatus Porter with a right-hand door was the jump plane, which is standard in Italy. He explained during the NSL Live Talk how the teams in Italy deal with switching from the right-hand door to Twin Otter or Cessna Caravan when they compete at international events.

Teams in France and Belgium are often in the same situation, and Michele Silvi himself has a lot of experiences, as he was outside center for Amnesya and switched to inside center for NMP PCH HayaBusa. The video of the conversation provides more details of this very interesting and very different slot-switcher..
