Did You Know...

... that Just4Fun won Finland's indoor championship under Siskon Pojat?

Meet briefing at the Fööni windtunnel in Helsinki
posted Oct 14th, 2020 - Siskon Pojat, also known as Just4Fun, are the new national indoor champions of Finland. The Pro Team, winner of the national championship last year, did not travel to Helsinki this time. Siskon Pojat and Blue Steel fought it out once again at their 5th indoor duel, and Siskon Pojat had the final word with an 8-point victory.

Neither of the two teams were formed when the Pro Team won the national indoor title in March 2019. Vesa Vuroenkoski (Just4Fun) and Matthew Iles (Blue Steel) competed with Blackjack and then split up to continue with their new teams.

The absence of the defending champions from Rovaniemi turned the 5th duel into a 2-team showdown for the national indoor title. As in their previous confrontations, it was a new 10-round thriller, even though Siskon Pojat eventually won by eight points. Blue Steel won four rounds, Siskon five, and both teams tied once.

Blue Steel was still only two points behind after Round 8, and the meet was actually decided in the last two rounds. Siskon Pojat won each of the two fastest sequences of the meet by three points to secure the 2-point lead after Round 8 and succeeded the Pro Team as Finland's new national indoor champions.

The last two rounds alone created the biggest point difference in the history of this internal duel since both teams were formed after last year's national indoor championship, except for the first duel, where the lineups were different.

The total point difference for the four meets since June 2019 was one single point (824 - 823) and the expectations were high on both sides. The 2-point difference after Round 8 reflected the competitive history of this duel almost perfectly, and the pressure was on the highest level going into the final two rounds.

The 2020 indoor season of the Finnish Tunnel League is still not over yet. Blue Steel will have another opportunity to correct the current power rankings in December. The last indoor meet of the year is scheduled for the 5th of the month at the Fööni windtunnel in Helsinki.

The next national indoor championship in Finland will include the Scandinavian Indoor Championships, and it will take place on Finnish home turf in Helsinki. It is scheduled for March 2021, the month before the FAI Indoor World Meet was on the 2021 schedule in April.
