Did You Know...

... that four of the five top teams in the world compete with new lineups?

TailSpin XP's Molar exit in Round 9 of the NSL Cloud Mondial
posted Oct 17th, 2020 - The NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 is day by day getting closer to the deadline on October 25th, and more videos arrive on the NSL Cloud. Next to the AAA/Open Class, the online competition also offers the other traditional NSL categories (AA - A - RRR), and TailSpin XP from North Carolina just submitted the next AA/Intermediate Class videos.

TailSpin XP had missed the Skydiving Nationals 2.0 and now uses the new online opportunity to get some competition practice.

The videos of three of the AAA Class top contenders (NMP PCH HayaBusa, Arizona Airspeed, Qatar Tigers) are already under the scrutiny of the InTime event judges, and they are showing three different backgrounds. The Belgian 4-way world champions performed the eleven sequences on their home turf in Spa, Belgium, from a Cessna Caravan, as the photo of the Round 9 exit (N - Molar) is showing.

Arizona Airspeed was exiting from Skydive Arizona's Twin Otter on home turf in Eloy, and Gary Smith said that the Qatar Tigers had to deal with a small door of another Cessna Caravan in Portugal. Out of the Blue jumped from a Cessna Caravan in the Netherlands, Ayro from another Caravan in Belgium. SDC Rhythm XP will use a Twin Otter for the competition rounds during their training camp at Skydive Perris.

The videos will also be showing the differences between the exits and the turning patterns that Michele Silvi explained during the NSL Live Talk on October 8th. The exit photos present Arizona Airspeed and Qatar Tigers with the same slot constellation, while HayaBusa's Molar is a mirror-image due to the different exit slots from a right-hand door history.

As another result of the different exit techniques, the Belgian, French and Italian teams are also rotating the following blocks (13 - 11) with a right-hand pattern, while the pieces of the other teams rotate to the left.

The NSL Cloud Mondial is bringing another very interesting aspect to the leaderboard of the online outdoor competition. The first three teams in the NSL Power Rankings are all attending their first outdoor meet with new lineups. It is impossible to predict at this point in time who will have the best start.

NMP PCH HayaBusa have replaced David Grauwels with Michele Silvi, and Christy Frikken has taken JaNette Lefkowitz's inside center slot. Both teams have new team members in the driver's seat. Arizona Airspeed have two new members, also including a new inside center (Christopher Kuhlmann). However, Airspeed have completed more training jumps than the other two top contenders this year.

French 4-way Open Class team at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019
The French 4-way Open Class team has two new team members, as well. Damien Gouriou and Kevin Mansion are back in 4-way and 8-way, Aurelien Lemaire and Alban Rumolo replaced Laurence Herve and Charles Rommel after the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018. The new French 4-way Open Class team is actually one year ahead of NMP PCH HayaBusa, SDC Rhythm XP, Arizona Airspeed and have attended a total of four outdoor meets in 2019 and 2020, including the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019.

However, the vast majority of the French training jumps were invested for 8-way training, and the 4-way Open Class team has to take on the 4-way experts from Belgium, United States and Qatar. The NSL Cloud Mondial will show how close the new French 4-way lineup will be to the bronze medal level and a successful defense of the 3rd place at the Mondial 2020 next year.

The Qatar Tigers are the only top team win a completely identical lineup, including videographer Pavel Skotak, and they also have 4-way world-champion coach Gary Smith on their side for the second year. At least the FAI bronze medals seem to be in reach for the Qatar Tigers.

SDC Rhythm XP and Arizona Airspeed will follow up shortly after the conclusion of the NSL Cloud Mondial with their first outdoor competition at the same place, at the same time and from the same jump plane. The International 4-Way FS Skydiving Championships in Eloy in November will be the second outdoor test for both teams with their new lineups. This will be the end of the 2020 outdoor season, which was then the shortest one in the history of the sport...
