The completion of the whole event, with its eleven rounds and the exhaustion of the complete dive pool, is not guaranteed for all teams at all different locations on the planet. The final leaderboard could eventually resemble a traditional NSL meet weekend, where the participating teams are facing different weather conditions and logistics and are completing as many rounds as they can under the circumstances.
The event environment is even more challenging for the NSL Cloud Mondial, as there are not only weather conditions and logistics that allow the completion of all rounds or not. The implications of the corona virus crisis have been the most influential factor of Formation Skydiving training and competition and have at least the same impact as weather conditions.
The Dutch national 4-way team Out Of The Blue (OOTB) is one of the victims. OOTB completed the first five rounds of the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 already in September and submitted the videos for processing and judging. The successful start into the event was followed by bad weather and then travel restrictions in the Netherlands. Team member Mandy Feijen said that things have been getting worse ever since and that the virus seems to get even closer again.
National coach and 8-way team member Mathieu Bernier said that his teams had to deal with both of the main obstacles. Sophia Pecout, reigning 4-way world champion in 4-way Women, tested Covid-19 positive on the second day of the September camp, and the training had to be interrupted for seven days. Pamela Lissajoux has been back in the 4-way Women lineup, and the French delegation continued with training from Pilatus Porter in Gap.
The next outdoor training was taking place in Pamiers, where Mathieu Bernier was planning to complete the NSL Cloud Mondial. Unfortunately, the weather then became the major obstacle with a big storm system over the southwestern part of Europe. The 8-way team still completed six rounds, and Mathieu Bernier was hoping to finish the event in the remaining two training days.
NMP PCH HayaBusa were one of the first teams submitting the complete set of eleven videos in September, together with Out Of The Blue and the second team from Belgium, Ayro. The earliest submissions have already been processed and judged by InTime.
The NSL News will begin with the event coverage as soon as the collection of the footage has been completed. The coverage will be similar to a live competition and stretch out over a time period of five days, which is similar to the usual time frame for the FAI World Championship of Formation Skydiving.
The first day will feature the first three rounds of the competition in 4-way and 8-way, followed by the next three rounds on Day 2. Rounds 6 - 9 will concluded the third day, followed by Round 10 and then Round 11 for the Grande Finale.
Unfortunately, there will be no live crowd to experience the suspense, however, NSL Live Talk will surely be a part of the coverage. Hopefully, there will be many teams with a complete set of eleven videos. At least NMP PCH HayaBusa and Arizona Airspeed both will be a part of the coverage throughout Round 11.
