Did You Know...

... that five 4-way teams participate in the Norwegian FS2022 project?

AAA Class awards at the Norwegian Nationals 2020
posted Oct 23rd, 2020 - The NSL News had covered the Norwegian Outdoor Nationals 2020 mostly with the focus on Punky Fish, a team with an international player-coach lineup that was active with training and competition between 2002 and 2006.

Paul Hofstee, current member of the German national 4-way Open Class team Oceanside AtomiX, had launched his 4-way career with Punky Fish, together for a while with Ole Petr Hjelle, who would compete later for Norway with 4-way team Arcteryx. DeLand Norgies Lise Aune Nansen and Pål Kolbenstvedt were some of the early player-coaches.

Lise Aune Nansen, Ole Petr Hjelle and Pål Kolbenstvedt had a reunion at this year's national outdoor championships, and Kjetil Nordin completed the lineup. This new Punky Fish lineup won the Norwegian 4-way title easily with a 16.5 average, which was a new personal record average for the latest Punky Fish member Kjetil Nordin.

The NSL News story on August 4th mentioned that the event coverage and the dominating performance of Punky Fish received most of the attention, while Norway's actual national 4-way Open Class team finished with a significantly improved meet average (10.9 - 13.9) after a year of training. However, the article still provided a comprehensive update of Agera's situation in August.

Agera at the Norwegian Nationals 2020
Several weeks after the Norwegian Nationals 2020 the NSL News received more information from Norway during a conversation with Carl-Erik Tuv, who was in the tail slot for the DeLand Norgies from the beginning of the team to the still open end. He is 4-way active and ready when the DeLand Norgies get back together, as they did last time at the Norwegian Outdoor Nationals 2017.

Carl-Erik Tuv's daughter Christiane Wilhelmine Sørfjord Tuv is a member of the national B-Team Volare, which is participating in the FS2022 project under her father's guidance. Carl-Erik Tuv launched the 4-way project for the Norwegian skydiving federation, and he provided more information for the NSL News.

Carl-Erik Tuv is also the meet director for the next FAI World Cup that is supposed to he held in 2021 or 2022 in Norway. The event's original date was postponed when the FAI Mondial 2020 was rescheduled. The FAI/ISC has not finalized the event schedule for the coming years yet. However, Carl-Erik Tuv is preparing his teams for both events, and for the near future anyway.

He remembered his own early days with the Norgies in 4-way and 8-way and how the team projects with support of the skydiving federation were lifting the performance level and spread knowledge for the whole Norwegian skydiving community.

Christiane Wilhelmine Sørfjord Tuv and Carl-Erik Tuv at the Norwegian Nationals 2020
He said that there was a time in Norwegian Formation Skydiving when the main focus was only on the national teams, and there was not much support for the whole competition community. It changed when club manager Audun Wik and Carl-Erik Tuv shared their visions how to move the sport forward in Norway and began to create a new plan in 2014.

The final result of the new development towards a similar support as in the Norgies times is the current FS2022 project. The members of the national team Agera focus on the progression of their own progression, while they also support other teams in Norway. Carl-Erik Tuv is expecting a 17-average level at the FAI Mondial 2020 next year in Tanay, and he is also supervising the Agera members with their side jobs.

Each team member is a player-coach for an intermediate team in the FS2022 project at the same time. There are five teams who participate in the project, including the B-Team Volada. Carl-Erik sees his daughter's team at a 15-average level next year.

He is still active at the same time. He said that the DeLand Norgies meet every other Tuesday for some 4-way indoor training. It will probably still take a little while until the project teams will challenge the DeLand Norgies seriously...
