Did You Know...

... that several competitors will perform the same numbers and letters in different 4-way and 8-way sequences?

Ready for NSL Cloud Mondial InTime judging: Dirk Venter and Claire King
posted Oct 25th, 2020 - The official deadline for the submission of videos for the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 is over. However, a few teams needed some additional time, and it will probably take until the end of the month until all footage is collected, processed and judged.

There is actually another big leaderboard with scores of teams who have used the same competition draw at specific and separate events. The last one took place this weekend at Skydive Perris, where the Southern California Skydiving League concluded a well abbreviated 2020 season with a total of seven teams.

The leaderboard with scores of these earlier meets have already been posted, as different judging panels too care of the videos live at the event sites. The competition rounds of the other teams who submitted videos of the NSL Cloud Mondial have been and will all be judged by the InTime judging panel in South Africa, organized by Claire King and Dirk Venter.

The three different leaderboards are already showing the teams who have submitted the videos, even though the number of completed rounds will be different, depending on weather and virus conditions in the different countries. In fact, the leaderboards for the three additional NSL categories (AA - A - RRR) are also a part of the same event and open for submissions.

Airspeed XP8 and Airbus Illertissen with Round 11 of the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020
8-way thriller at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019 in Eloy
FAI/ISC outdoor events include only the three traditional Formation Skydiving categories (4way Open - 4way Women - 8way Open) and Vertical Formation Skydiving competition. FAI/ISC indoor events are also offering the 4-way Junior category (AA), while 8-way is not an official part of FAI/ISC indoor competition at world meets and world cups.

The videos of two 8-way teams have been submitted so far, and the French national 8-way team will follow up in the coming days. The expected 8-way thriller between Airspeed XP8, France and Russia's Tanay 8-way team at the FAI Mondial 2020 next year will have the first very real preview after the conclusion of the NSL Cloud Mondial.

The German national 8-way team completed all eleven rounds with the same lineup that will be training for the FAI Mondial 2020 and compete in Tanay next year. The Airbus 4-way team completed two rounds at the Paranodon Cup in Illertissen at the end of August and were planning to add more rounds after later training weekends.

Seven double-duties: French national 8-way team
Airspeed XP8 had SDC Rhythm XP member Andrew Happick in the lineup that completed the eleven NSL Cloud Mondial rounds in Eloy. He is the official alternate and has trained at most of the XP8 camps this year, while the time of Matt Davidson's outdoor comeback is coming closer. He plans to take back his slot in December, as the NSL News reported on September 22nd. Andrew Happick will also perform the same numbers and letters of the 4-way dive pool and in the point slot for SDC Rhythm XP.

Airspeed XP8 alternate and SDC Rhythm XP member Andrew Happick and Airbus member Alexander Prendinger are actually in the same situation. Both have to memorize and visualize different formations and maneuvers when they switch from 4-way to 8-way and vice versa.

The same counts for all members of the French national 4-way teams (4way Open - 4way Women), except Pamela Lissajoux and national coach Mathieu Bernier. Pamela Lissajoux competes only in 4-way Women, where dive pool and sequences are identical with 4-way Open. Mathieu Bernier trains and competes only in 8-way where he takes Pamela Lissajoux's slot. He is probably the Formation Skydiving competitor who would be most comfortable with using both dive pools at the same time. He has been doing it since 2004 and has won several FAI medals in both events, including the two unique gold medals at the same world meet in Menzelinsk 2010. He can tell his seven competitors with French double-duties how to switch back and forth between the events...
