Did You Know...

... that Monaco Aerokart Maubeuge could still become the new French B-Team next year?

Current Monaco Aerokart Maubeuge lineup at the World Challenge 2016
posted Oct 28th, 2020 - The NSL News provided an update of the former French 4-way juniors of Aerokart Ak'demie on August 25th. Tom Mattoni, Cameron Malie, Eliot and Oscar Massier have turned into outdoor competitors and won the AA Class competition of the French Outdoor Nationals 2020.

The story reviewed the fascinating team career that began in 2014 and that the NSL News has documented on a regular basis. The focus was also on the history that connects the young French 4-way competitors with the Czech HF Cubs with their all-female lineup.

Both teams did not plan their parallel paths to 4-way senior outdoor competition, which happened under the guidance of Jan Klapka (Czech Republic) and Mathieu Bernier (France).

Unfortunately, both teams have to interrupt their progression once again, as the corona virus pandemic has been increasing in Europe just as much as it has in the United States. There will neither be much indoor nor outdoor training and competition for the remainder of the year in both countries. French national coach Mathieu Bernier still had an update for the NSL News that provided new information of the former French junior team.

Monaco Aerokart Maubeuge at the French Outdoor Nationals 2020
Mathieu Bernier said that the original goal of the former 4-way juniors was accomplished when they all completed their outdoor student training. They wanted to jump from planes, with or without their indoor team mates.

The new team name (Monaco Aerokart Maubeuge) reflected their transition from indoor to outdoor training and competition and the combination of both.

Aerokart is the windtunnel in Paris where the 4-way juniors grew up. Skydive Maubeuge is one of the major dropzones in France that hosted the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2008. The Monaco Indoor Team has taken over the patronage of the team.

Three team members (Cameron Malie, Eliot and Oscar Massier) started jumping in Maubeuge, while Tom Mattoni had completed a total of 40 jumps when he joined his team mates eventually at the national championships. The complete lineup exited for the first time from a Cessna Caravan at the event.

The complete lineup were eager to launch a Star as their standard formation, and the videos are showing how they were dealing with the challenging task.

Stéphane and Tom Mattoni
Tom Mattoni completed his student training later in Maubeuge and then continued first with his father Stéphane Mattoni as the player-coach for some 4-way training with other lineups. Stéphane Mattoni is a member of the Monaco Indoor Team, and the senior team has accommodated other former 4-way juniors before (Kylian Forsans, Valentin Vazille).

The timing for the complete Monaco Aerokart Maubeuge lineup was difficult, as Cameron Malie was not available when Tom Mattoni was ready to jump from planes together with all of his indoor team mates.

Coach Marin Ferre is too busy and committed to his job for the Qatar delegation, and Damien Gouriou, member of the national 4-way Open Class team, has now been working with the former juniors for indoor training. He filled the open slot, as well, whenever it was necessary. It's the next team member, Eliot Massier, who has not been available any longer. He is busy studying on a higher school level, and the team may need a substitute for a while.

Mathieu Bernier said that the corona virus crisis does not make it any easier to manage the whole French delegation. However, he knows that the young team of new skydivers have all the technical skills and experiences, and he just needs patience with the progress. He still believes that the team could become a new French B-Team next year.
