Did You Know...

... that Craig Girard and Jeremie Rollett will comment NSL Cloud Mondial 8-way on Monday?

Eliana Rodriguez - Jeremie Rollett - Craig Girard in Maubeuge 2008
posted Oct 29th, 2020 - The schedule is set for the NSL News coverage of the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020, and it will begin with the 8-way competition.

The scores and videos of the first four rounds will be posted on Monday morning. The next four rounds will follow on Tuesday, two more on Wednesday. Round 11, which would be necessary in a jump-off situation at a regular competition, is the final 8-way showdown on Thursday next week.

The competition draw for the NSL Cloud Mondial is exhausting the complete dive pool with the eleven rounds, and the last sequence is a part of the competition, whether a jump-off would be necessary or not. This format will bring all blocks and random formations to all teams that completed the eleven rounds, as NMP PCH HayaBusa, Arizona Airspeed and Airspeed XP8 have already done.

The 8-way experts actually expect a competition at the FAI Mondial 2020 next year that makes a jump-off situation very realistic. The three top teams (Russia - United States - France) are so close that the extra round could be necessary to break a potential tie after Round 10. The same situation could already be there after Round 10 of the NSL Cloud Mondial.

France 8-way and Airspeed Odyssey at the FAI World Meet 2008
8-way gold and 4-way silver in Maubeuge 2008: Jeremie Rollett (bottom right)
The NSL News mentioned earlier that the event coverage will simulate a real world meet or world cup as good as possible. The competition rounds will be presented the same way by InTime, and three FAI judges will evaluate the footage and push the buttons.

The teams usually complete three or four rounds in one event on the same competition day before the meet director switches from 4-way to 8-way or vice versa. The 4-way footage is not complete at the beginning of next week, which delays the start of the coverage for a few days. However, the 8-way coverage begins on Monday and will simulate the real competition format.

The NSL News is also planning a similar event coverage as it is provided at live events. There will be NSL Live Talk, which will once again use the Zoom online platform to bring the commentators together on the same screen. They will know only the scores and videos of the first four rounds and explain what they see and expect at the end of the first day.

Jeremie Rollett and Craig Girard will be available on Monday with their incredible wealth of knowledge and experiences and share it with the audience.

4-way gold and 8-way silver in Spain 2001: Craig Girard (top right)
They accepted the NSL News invitation, which was based on a very special reason. With Airspeed XP8 and France, the 8-way competition features two teams with team members who train and compete in 4-way and 8-way at the same time, as the NSL News pointed out on October 27th. The French 8-way team also has Mathieu Bernier in the lineup, who is the only competitor in the history of the sport who won 4-way and 8-way gold medals at the same world meet in Menzelinsk 2010.

Craig Girard and Jeremie Rollett both have their own and extremely exciting experiences with the same situation. Jeremie Rollet was in Mathieu Bernier's support team and won 4-way gold together with him in Russia 2010. However, he did not try to win both events by then, and only Mathieu Bernier competed in 8-way, as well.

However, Jeremie Rollett was in the same French 4-way Open Class team, and the complete lineup (Julien Degen, Mathieu and Guillaume Bernier) won 8-way gold in Maubeuge 2008. Then they finished one point behind in 4-way at the same event. Craig Girard was Jeremie Rollet's direct 4-way opponent with Airspeed Odyssey and kept him from winning his own double-gold in 2008.

Craig Girard had tried the same seven years earlier with Airspeed Vertical who won 4-way gold in Spain 2001. Airspeed's 8-way team then finished one point behind Russia. Jeremie Rollett and Craig Girard will have a lot to talk about when they meet on Zoom on Monday and comment the first four 8-way rounds of the NSL Cloud Mondial.
