Did You Know...

... that Eliana Rodriguez, Craig Girard and Dan BC share more with each other than FAI gold medals?

posted Oct 30th, 2020 - NSL-TV received some of the meet videos from Southern California Skydiving League co-director Mary SantAngelo, including the four rounds of the AAA Class leader, Jerry and the Jets. Mary SantAngelo competed once again herself, as well, this time with AAA Class team The Breast Yet to Come.

She has recently been recovering from a breast cancer surgery and was back with a pickup team eight weeks later. She had collected her first AAA Class experiences at the 2020 season opener in June, when she filled an open slot for Elsinore Elevate.

The videos of Jerry and the Jets are showing the three former Airspeed world champions Eliana Rodriguez, Craig Girard and Dan BC in 4-way action. They are all still very active in the sport in several different areas. As the NSL News announced yesterday, Craig Girard will launch the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 coverage on Monday, together with Jeremie Rollett. His 4-way world champion team mate and wife Eliana Rodriguez may also join the discussion of the situation after Round 4 in 8-way Open.

Eliana Rodriguez and Craig Girard were also FAI 8-way world champion team mates in Rijeka 2004 before they won FAI 4-way gold medals together in Maubeuge 2008.

Craig Girard was also filling Matt Davidson's Airspeed XP8 slot at training camps this year, while he was player-coaching Jerry and the Jets, together with Eliana Rodriguez and Dan BC. Last and not least, he has been coaching the Russian 8-way team from Tanay since the beginning of last year.

Eliana Rodriguez, Craig Girard and Dan BC competed with Arizona Airspeed when the Russian 8-way team, France and XP8 battled for the gold medals at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019. France and the U.S. 8-way team were now back for the 8-way action of the NSL Cloud Mondial, and Craig Girard will once again watch the best 8-way teams in the world and share his impressions with the audience.

The Russian 8-way team is apparently not participating in the event, as the NSL News has not received any footage from Russia. Airspeed XP8 and France will duel with each other, and Germany's Airbus 8-way lineup will join the teams on the leaderboard.

Mary SantAngelo reported from Perris that the weather took a positive turn for the meet in California: "The weather had been in triple digits for months, but come Saturday morning Mother Nature had to pull a 2020 and Autumn began to show it's intent to cool things down by bringing low clouds. By 13:30 the first Twin Otter load with the AAA teams went up, followed by the AA teams. Due to a late start the league only got four rounds, and the AA teams couldn't do a jump-off for the 2nd place."

The NSL News pointed out in the 8-way preview of the NSL Cloud Mondial that Craig Girard and Jeremie Rollett are launching the event coverage with NSL Live Talk and their expertise in 4-way and 8-way double-duties. Airspeed XP8 and France both have several team members who train and compete in both events, and Alex Prendinger is doing the same in Germany.

Eliana Rodriguez' and Craig Girard's Airspeed and Jerry and the Jets team mate Dan BC has his own experiences with double-duties, as well. He had tried to win FAI gold medals in both events at the FAI World Cup 1999.

Dan BC shared Jeremie Rollett's double-duty results of 2008, with a gold medal in 8-way and silver in 4-way. Dan BC, Jack Jefferies, Mark Kirkby and Kirk Verner were the reigning 4-way world champions of 1995 and 1997 when they traveled to Australia in 1999 for their first attempt to win gold in both Formation Skydiving events.

They won gold with the new Airspeed 8-way team that Craig Girard had initiated in Eloy. Then they missed the 4-way gold medals by six points. Kirk Verner is now in the Airspeed XP8 lineup and tries to win only 8-way gold. Craig Girard will see on Monday how close Kirk Verner is to winning a new FAI gold medal, 25 years after winning his first 4-way gold in 1995, and 21 years after his first 8-way gold in 1999.
