... that Out of the Blue and CTR Optimum will meet again live at the next outdoor world meet?

Black Mantis at the Paranodon Cup 2020
posted Nov 15th, 2020 - The NSL News mentioned earlier that the leaderboard of the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 included a few other events that took place within the same time period. Result was a total of 40 teams who used the same competition draw and completed as many of the eleven rounds as possible.

17 of the 40 teams competed in the AAA Class, which is identical with the 4-way Open Class at world meets, world cups and other national championships. The AAA Class leaderboard eventually brought teams together from three different events, the Paranodon Cup in Germany, the October meet of the Southern California Skydiving League, and the actual NSL Cloud Mondial online event.

Airbus, the former German national 4-way team, and Austria's newly crowned national champions of Black Mantis, completed only two rounds at the Paranodon Cup, due to the inclement weather situation. Airbus then added eight additional rounds after one of the team's following training weekends.

The top half of the AAA Class leaderboard features mostly national teams who have competed at world meets and/or world cups in the past, and who will represent their countries at the next world championship, the FAI Mondial 2020 in Tanay next year. Black Mantis plan to compete for Austria for the first time, while Oceanside AtomiX is Germany's 4-way national team after winning in 2019.

Out of the Blue (Netherlands) - CTR Optimum (Brazil) at the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020
Out of the Blue at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018
The combined AAA Class leaderboard needed a few adjustments in the rankings, due to the different number of rounds that the teams completed at the many different locations. The adjusted rankings are showing the neighboring teams according to the scores for the rounds that were completed. The currently posted five scores for SDC Rhythm XP generate the same rankings, either after three rounds or including Rounds 9 and 10.

As it usually happens at the major 4-way competitions there are more battles than only the race for the medal positions on the top of the leaderboard. NMP PCH HayaBusa, Arizona Airspeed, SDC Rhythm XP and Qatar Tigers have been and are FAI medal contenders, and they will be in the same race once again next year, with the exception of Arizona Airspeed.

Airspeed and Rhythm have their next showdown in the coming week at the International 4-Way FS Skydiving Championships in Eloy, and then they will fight it out for the next world meet qualification at the USPA Nationals 2021.

Two more national teams placed in the top half of the NSL Cloud Mondial leaderboard, Out of the Blue from the Netherlands and CTR Optimum from Brazil, and both will compete for their countries at the next world meet.

CTR Optimum (Brazil) - Out of the Blue (Netherlands) at the FAI World Meet 2018
CTR Optimum at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018
It will not the be the first world meet where Out of the Blue and CTR Optimum face each other directly. CTR Optimum has represented Brazil at numerous world meets in the past, while Australia 2018 was the first one for the current Dutch national 4-way Open Class team, even though some of the team members were in previous Dutch national lineups at world meets and world cups.

However, Out of the Blue and CTR Optimum competed directly with each other for the first time in Australia 2018, and they finished just as close to each other as they did after the first five rounds of the NSL Cloud Mondial. Only one team separated them on the two different leaderboards, the Spanish 4-way team Papea in Australia, XPG4 at the NSL Cloud Mondial.

The ranking positions are switched at this point in time, and Out of the Blue will like it the way it is. CTR Optimum have almost a year of time to bring the new lineup with two new members (Jorge Neto, Alisson Vargas) back to and beyond the scoring level of 2018. They are aiming at improving the Brazilian outdoor record average (17.2) posted by the CTR Optimum lineup of 2012.

Out of the Blue still have three members of 2018 in their lineup, and Bart Daenen joined the team after the world meet. The progression of the new lineup has been impressive, and the Dutch team will make it difficult for CTR Optimum to turn the table again. However, both teams exchanged highscores in the first four rounds, and Out of the Blue had the upper hand when the online meet was over for the Dutch team.
