Did You Know...

... that the two Super Sequences from Eloy are not unique?

62-pointer world record in Australia 2018: NMP PCH HayaBusa
posted Nov 23rd, 2020 - The worldwide interest in the scores of the 4-Way FS Skydiving Championships at Skydive Arizona was naturally on a very high level, and especially the audience in Belgium followed the event very carefully. The first congratulations for the impressive performances came shortly after the conclusion of the event.

Gary Smith, David Grauwels and Joey Jones were back on Zoom a day later for a new NSL Live Talk in the Coaches Corner. They were well prepared to discuss the outcome of the event after studying the competition videos, which were posted early on Sunday morning.

Once again, the three professional coaches and competitors offered highly valuable insights for the audience, and it is highly recommended to listen to every minute of the conversation.

They agreed that it seems to be only a matter of time when the first 30+ outdoor average will be posted in the near future. Arizona Airspeed's 29.3 was the first meet average above the 29+ benchmark that NMP PCH HayaBusa had missed only due to several point deductions at the USPA Nationals 2019.

Short one point in Menzelinsk 2010: NMP PCH HayaBusa
The record averages in Eloy last weekend were heavily supported by two Super Sequences, the first one in Round 1 with five random formations, the second one in Round 5 with Block 9 and three random formations. The standing official Belgian 4-way world record of 62 points in Round 6 of the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018 was not in jeopardy in Eloy, even though the first Super Sequence was at least as fast as the earlier one in October 2018.

However, the coaches still agreed that a similar sequence could generate a score in the higher 60's if a Super Sequence is drawn in the presence of the best 4-way teams in the world.

It was not the first time in history that a competition draw included two Super Sequences. The situation was very similar at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2010 where the first Super Sequence in Round 3 (J,M,Q,P,L) consisted of five random formations. Round 9 then included Block 9 and three other random formations (O,E,9,G) for the second average booster.

Jerry and the Jets members Eliana Rodriguez and Craig Girard competed for Arizona Airspeed in Menzelinsk 2010 and remembered the situation, together with David Grauwels, who was in the active HayaBusa lineup of 2010, as well as his brother Andy. They finished one point behind the new world record of 56 points in 2010, before they eventually claimed it alone with the 62-pointer in Australia 2018.
