Did You Know...

... that there was a tight battle for the 3rd place in Eloy?

Katrina Autry-Shows (2nd from left) with the Lite XP 2019/2020 lineup
posted Nov 28th, 2020 - The battle for the 3rd place in the 4-way Open Class competition at the 4-Way FS Skydiving Championships was much closer than the new showdown between Arizona Airspeed and SDC Rhythm XP. Bullet and XPG4 were separated by only three points.

Jerry and the Jets were separated from the winner of this 4-way Open Class battle within the competition by almost exactly the same point difference (16) as SDC Rhythm XP finished behind Arizona Airspeed (17), and they won two rounds over Bullet and XPG4.

Bullet was a new team with an experienced lineup, and the team members knew each other from numerous 4-way and 8-way events. Katrina Autry-Shows was a long-time member of Lite XP, who have not come back yet after the 17.9 average at the USPA Nationals 2019.

She had also won the bronze medals with XPG4 for the U.S. delegation at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019. With Bullet she now posted a new personal record average for an outdoor competition when she battled with her three former XPG4 indoor team mates in Eloy.

James Klinge (top left) and Tim King (bottom left) at the FAI World Cup 2019
James Klinge and Tim King have trained and competed together in 8-way with the Amphibious Attack Tigers, who attended USPA Nationals and FAI Outdoor World Cup last year. Tim King also trained and competed with Dallas 350 in the past, while James Klinge has been in the Defiance lineups of the recent years.

Defiance with James Klinge won the team's first bronze medals in the 4-way Open Class of the USPA Nationals and missed bronze medals a month later at the FAI Outdoor World Cup only by four points.

It was the complete Airspeed Odyssey lineup of 2006 (Eliana Rodriguez, Craig Girard, Andy Delk, Brian Johnson, with Charles Lane on camera) who finished in the FAI bronze medal position last year, four points ahead of the Defiance lineup.

James Klinge won this year's re-match against Eliana Rodriguez and Craig Girard (Jerry and the Jets) with his Bullet lineup. Keith Conner, Elsinore Elevate member and USPA Advanced Class silver medalist of 2019 completed the Bullet lineup.

It was not a pickup team just for the meet. Bullet had completed approx. 70 training jumps before competing in Eloy.

XPG4 and Jerry and the Jets at the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020
XPG4 meeting in Eloy last week
Bullet's main opponent in the battle for the 3rd place in Eloy were XPG4, even though Jerry and the Jets had announced their serious presence earlier at the October meet of the Southern California Skydiving League. In fact, Jerry and the Jets had performed the same four sequences in Perris in October that XPG4 posted for the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020.

XPG4 were eight points ahead of Jerry and the Jets after Round 4, which was the end of the SCSL competition in Perris. Both teams then were back for the real outdoor competition in Eloy last week.

It was XPG4's first outdoor live competition. The U.S. indoor champion and national team in 4-way Women after this year's Paraclete XP Indoor Championship had completed all eleven rounds of the NSL Cloud Mondial and finished with a 17.6 average.

The 18.3 average in Eloy was based on a significantly faster competition draw, even though XPG4 did not take full advantage of the two Super Sequences. Bullet pulled away by five points in Round 1, and the better Round 5 was hammered by a 4-point loss due to the video angle after the exit. XPG4 then actually won the slower second half of the 10-round competition by three points over Bullet.
