Did You Know...

... that Super Sequences are almost guaranteed in the AA/Intermediate Class?

Perris You On? at the SCSL October meet
posted Nov 30th, 2020 - The NSL News coverage of the 4-Way FS Skydiving Championships concludes with the videos of the AA/Intermediate Class competition.

The winner, Perris You On?, did not have a serious opponent in this category and won with a total of almost twice as much as the team in 2nd place, Rave Monsters.

The Perris team would have been called a serious contender for USPA medals at national championships, after such a performance before the main 4-way event in the United States.

Unfortunately, the USPA Nationals 2020 were canceled earlier this year, and the ten rounds in Eloy were only a replacement event with participation that does not even compare. There are usually 30 teams or more who compete in the Intermediate Class of USPA Nationals.

However, the 12.2 average that Perris You On? posted in Eloy would almost guarantee a medal position at the national championship, or at least a position in the battle for USPA medals.

The 12.2 average was actually not really a big surprise for everybody who had taken a closer look at the complete leaderboard of the teams who used the competition draw of the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020.

The leaderboard of all participating AA/Intermediate Class teams was posted with the NSL News update on November 16th. Perris You On? completed the first four rounds at the October meet of the Southern California Skydiving League on home turf in Perris and finished with a 15.0 average.

The draw included a AA Class Super Sequence in Round 2, and the 24-pointer boosted the meet average of Perris You On? significantly. However, it is not unusual at all that the AA Class draw includes a sequence with only random formations. Each Intermediate Class competition at USPA Nationals has included one Super Sequence in the last decade, and AA Class teams should be well prepared for the almost guaranteed fast round.

The AA Class teams in Eloy had even two Super Sequences in the 10-round draw, and Perris You On? jumped far ahead of the other teams in Round 4 and Round 5. They had already launched the competition with an impressive 18-pointer in Round 1.

Eggplant at the ASL June meet
There was a serious battle for the 2nd place on the AA Class leaderboard though, while Perris You On? will have to wait for more opponents on the top level at the USPA Nationals next year.

Rave Monsters and Eggplant XP represented their home leagues in Eloy for a 1-point race behind the winner. Rave Monsters had attended the same SCSL October meet as Perris You On? with the competition draw of the NSL Cloud Mondial. Eggplant have been regulars at the meets of the Arizona Skydiving League since January 2019 and had attended the ASL June event this year.

Rave Monsters were even better prepared, after competing at both SCSL meets in June and October, and they had also participated in the Skydiving Nationals 2.0 online competition in September.

The competition between the two teams from the two different NSL leagues on the west coast turned out to be a 10-round thriller. Rave Monsters finished one point ahead after Round 5 at the end of the first day. Eggplant tied the game in Round 6 on Saturday morning and were even two points ahead after Round 8. Rave Monsters then made up the two points in Round 9, and Round 10 was like a jump-off for the 2nd place. Rave Monsters won and took the second set of AA Class medals to Southern California.
