Did You Know...

... that the Polish MAD Team is back in the AAA Class?

Rookie Class at the World Challenge 2018: MAD Team
posted Dec 7th, 2020 - The NSL News preview of the World Challenge 2020 on March 6th included an update and overview of the registered teams for the world's largest indoor 4-way competition. The NSL Power Rankings were showing the MAD Team from Poland on the top of the expected AA Class leaderboard.

The event was eventually canceled as many others in the year of the corona virus crisis, and the MAD Team did not get the opportunity to accomplish a unique winning streak in the history of the World Challenge. The Polish indoor team had won the Rookie Class competition in 2018 and followed up a year later with gold medals in the A Class.

The MAD Team had moved up into the AA Class after the World Challenge 2019, and the scores in the team's five meets in the new AA category between May 2019 and January 2020 were very promising. MAD Team finally ended up as the top contender for the World Challenge 2020 after the 22.3 average at the Czech Open Indoor Championship 2020.

The World Challenge in Bedford has been the last event in the previous category for the MAD Team, and they were used to step up into the next category afterward, first in May 2018 into the A Class, then in May 2019 into the AA Class. They stayed true to their own internal standards and still did the same after the cancellation of the World Challenge 2020.

AAA Class last month: MAD Team
The MAD Team scores for the month of November appear for the first time on the AAA Class leaderboard. Some of the events in Poland had to be canceled as everywhere else, including the annual Flyspot Polish Open, which was scheduled for October 2020.

However, Flyspot applied the format of the World Tunnel League for the month of November, and a new record number of teams submitted their scores and videos to the Polish judges between November 4th and 27th. Result was a November leaderboard with 15 teams.

Flyspot Omega were once again perfectly in step with the MAD Team. They had the same progression from Rookie to AA Class as their internal Polish opponents since 2017, only in a slightly different order.

Flyspot Omega was then even one step ahead after attending the October competition this year, as the NSL News reported on November 10th. Once again Flyspot Omega and MAD Team battled it out last month, and Flyspot Omega's exact copy of the 18.6 average in October was not enough to hold off MAD Team in their first AAA Class meet.

Moravian Flyers and Smaljlici at the October meet
Flyspot One2Three were back again, too, and the November competition turned out to feature the first AAA Class leaderboard with four Polish teams in this category. National 4-way team FlySpot Sky4Four are currently still far ahead of the new AAA contenders. However, MAD Team finished already close to the 20-average benchmark, and the three teams behind the Polish top team will probably continue to push each other closer.

As Flyspot Omega did in the AAA Class, Crazy Donut finished with exactly the same total number and meet average (18.8) after the eight A Class rounds in November. Crazy Donut also stepped up this year, after four meets in the Rookie Class competition of 2019.

There was also once again a Czech presence on the Polish leaderboards. The same three teams (Rusalky, Smaljlici, Moravian Flyers) who had traveled the short distance from the Czech Republic to Poland in October were back for the November competition, while the Hurricane Factory in Prague was closed.

The internal Czech family outcome was different though, as the parents (Moravian Flyers) outscored their children (Smaljlici) this time. The Hurricane Factory is back open, and Jan Klapka has probably a 2-week window for his own events before new restrictions might be ordered.
