Did You Know...

... that Jan Klapka had never missed a monthly ICL score since January 2014?

Rewarded with FAI gold medals in 4-way Junior: HF Cubs
posted Dec 11th, 2020 - Jan Klapka has been running his meets of the Czech World Tunnel League in the past when the outdoor season in the Czech Republic was over. The first of the monthly indoor meets at the Hurricane Factory in Prague was usually scheduled for November, and the league's indoor season would be concluded with the 6th meet in April.

The Czech Open Indoor Championship followed shortly after the last league meet as the final event, before the teams would focus back on outdoor training and competition.

The schedule of the indoor events changed slightly in 2019 when the Czech Open Indoor Championship took place in January, three months before the Czech indoor season would be over. The FAI Indoor World Meet 2019 was scheduled for April, and Jan Klapka decided to run the Czech Open early and avoid a very tight meet schedule later on. His thoughts were rewarded with the gold medals for the HF Cubs in 4-way Junior.

Moving the event and completing the 2019 schedule as planned were not related in any way to the corona virus pandemic. Even Jan Klapka's new indoor season in the Czech Republic, once again scheduled monthly between November 2019 and April 2020, began just as planned.

Czech Outdoor Nationals 2020
The teams launched the new Czech indoor season in November and followed up in December.

Even the first three 2020 meets in January, February and March could still be completed, even though the series of event cancellations had already begun.

Despite a well controlled pandemic situation in the Czech Republic in the early months, things changed in April with the shutdown of the Hurricane Factory, and Jan Klapka could not complete his usual indoor winter season.

However, the wind-tunnel in Prague was permitted to reopen in June, and Jan Klapka, who had rescheduled the final indoor event in the meantime, was able to complete all scheduled meets of the 2019/2020 season with his 6th indoor meet.

The Czech teams switched back to outdoor training and competition only a little bit later than usual and had to follow the restrictions and regulations for skydiving at the drop-zones. Three teams eventually attended the Czech Outdoor Nationals in July.

Up into the AAA Class world: HF Flying Rebels
The break beginning in April also impacted Jan Klapka's Indoor Cloud League team. He had not missed a score on the monthly ICL leaderboards since he joined the league in January 2014. The missing scoring number for April 2020 was a significant signal from the Czech Republic.

The Hurricane Factory was open again in May, and the Czech Indoor Cloud League team had new scores and videos between May and September, even though the official indoor meet season of the Czech World Tunnel League was over. Then a new shutdown with the same reason followed in October, and the ICL leaderboard was missing the Czech scores for two more months.

Jan Klapka also had to delay the start of the new WTL/CZTL indoor season, which was supposed to begin in November. Last week's indoor competition at the Hurricane Factory was the official start of the Czech 2020/2021 season.

It turned out to be a completely new leaderboard with a new record number of Czech AAA Class teams. The 4-way juniors of HF Flying Rebels and HF Dragonflies took on the complete dive pool for the first time, and the NSL News will follow up soon with the meet videos and more details.
