Did You Know...

... that High Voltage used the NSL Cloud Mondial to step up to AA Class competition?

Rookie Class start at the ISR Grand Prix 2018
posted Dec 19th, 2020 - One of all the teams who participated in the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 used the event to step up into the next competition category. High Voltage from Belgium posted scores for the first time on a AA Class leaderboard.

A total of nine teams competed in the AA Class, eight from the United States and High Voltage, as the NSL News update was showing on November 16th. The NSL Cloud Mondial actually offered slots on the international leaderboard in all four NSL outdoor categories (AAA - AA - A - RRR).

Most of the international competition took place only on the AAA Class leaderboard, with the exception of High Voltage and a few German teams in the A Class. The Belgian team ended up right in the middle of the eight U.S. teams after the four rounds that were considered for the rankings on the AA Class leaderboard. TailSpin XP posted their scores on the same NSL Cloud Mondial leaderboard, together with the other U.S. teams who applied the same draw at their own league meets.

High Voltage went through three of the four NSL competition categories within the last three years. The Belgian team launched their 4-way career in the Rookie Class of the ISR Grand Prix 2018, where they won a bronze medal in an 8-team field.

A Class at the ISR Grand Prix 2019
The Tomscat Trophy 2019 became the first outdoor competition for the same lineup, and Johannes Wirt was filming the team. The Tomscat Trophy had no Rookie Class leaderboard, and High Voltage finished once again in the medal rankings, this time in 2nd place of the A Class.

The new Belgian team had completed only 16 training jumps before competing at the Tomscat Trophy. High Voltage did not only receive their A Class silver medals. They were also awarded with the stimulation prize in Moorsele, which is given annually to a young and promising team.

They followed up at the Flanders Cup at Skydive Moorsele before representing Belgium at the team's 4th meet and second competition in the A Class, which was another international event. The same original lineup signed up for the ESL Championship 2019, added an average-point to their performance level and contributed six ESL points to the account of the Belgian delegation on their home turf in Spa. Belgium ended up in 2nd place behind the British delegation.

The ISR Grand Prix 2019 was the last meet of the year for High Voltage, this time with 16 opponents on the A Class leaderboard. High Voltage increased their Rookie Class average of 13.8 a year earlier to 17.5 in the A Class and finished in 4th place.

Young and promising: Stimulation prize at the Tomscat Trophy 2019
High Voltage were planning to step up into the AA Class competition at the beginning of the year and compete at the World Challenge in Bedford for the first time. Team coach Arne Vandendael was planning to prepare the team for the popular event with two more hours of indoor training in Belgium.

Then came the cancellations of most indoor and outdoor events, followed by the long break due to the corona virus crisis. High Voltage was still back this year, and again at a November competition. It was not the ISR Grand Prix though, which has for many years taken place in Roosendaal in November.

The ISR Grand Prix was canceled, just as many other indoor and outdoor events this year, and this time it was the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 in November, where High Voltage lineup could still make the next step into the AA Class competition.

Johannes Wirt was back on camera and filmed the nine rounds that his team was able to complete under the difficult November conditions in Belgium. High Voltage finished on the same scoring level as more than a year before, on the A Class leaderboard of the ESL Championship.
