Did You Know...

... that father Aleš Zeman supports his 4-way water-fairy Marketa Zemanova and her Rusalky team?

The current lineup of the Rusalky water-fairies
posted Dec 27th, 2020 - Three Czech teams have been connecting the indoor events of the World Tunnel League in Poland and Czech Republic regularly in the last three months.

A Class team Rusalky and the two family teams in the Rookie Class, parents with the Moravian Flyers and children with Smajilci, traveled to Poland when the Hurricane Factory was closed. The three Flyspot wind-tunnels in Warsaw, Katowice and Wroclaw have still been in operation, and the monthly events of the Flyspot Liga were within reach for the Czech teams.

The update from Poland on December 23rd mentioned the presence of the three Czech teams at Flyspot Wroclaw, which is the closest wind-tunnel location coming from Prague. The same update pointed out that the Czech junior team Rusalky improved their meet average significantly at the December meet.

The move from 9.4 in October to 18.4 in December caught at least the NSL News attention, and a request for more information was answered quickly. Jan Klapka explained that HF Flying Circus member Martina Vavackova has been coaching Rusalky for a while, and the results are showing.

Rusalky at the Flyspot Liga meet in October
Three "water-fairies" with Adam Dolanský
Martina Vavackova has been traveling to Wroclaw regularly to work with students. One of them was Aleš Zeman, who had started skydiving this year at Jan Klapka's school in Most and was passionate about the sport. He also enjoyed the indoor training.

His daughter Marketa Zemanova eventually joined him and started her own indoor training in September. At the same time, Rusalky needed a new team member to replace Adam Dolanský, who relocated to a new school, and Marketa Zemanova began indoor training with the team.

The other three Rusalky members (Lucie Novotná, Alžbeta Opálková, Veronika Podobská) have been training and competing together since April 2019 and were naturally ahead of the very new 4-way junior. Father Alex then decided to bring his daughter Marketa Zemanova to Wroclaw in Poland for a whole training weekend with coach Martina Vavackova.

Martina Vavackova said that Marketa Zemanova completed 3.5 hours of flying time within the two days of indoor training, and the results of her individual training efforts were already showing when Rusalky increased their meet average from 9.4 in October to 11.9 in November.

Rusalky at the Flyspot Liga meet in December
Rusalky training at Flyspot Wroclaw
Father Aleš Zeman enjoyed the progress of his daughter Marketa with Rusalky, and now he invited the whole team for another indoor training camp at Flyspot Wroclaw. At the same time, coach Martina Vavackova had registered the team once again for the Flyspot Liga meet in December, where Marketa Zemanova had collected her first competition experiences with Rusalky in September and October.

Martina Vavackova had also continued with Martina Vavackova's individual training, and she was ready for the higher performance level when it was time for the December competition. Unfortunately, outside center Lucie Novotná was not available for the next trip to Flyspot Wroclaw after she was tested positive with the Covid-19 virus. Martina Vavackova and Jan Klapka could not find a replacement quickly enough. Eventually Martina Vavackova asked Flyspot Liga for permission to replace Lucie Novotná, and Rusalky now had their player-coach in the lineup.

The two original "water-fairies", which is the translation of the team name Rusalky, and new member Marketa Zemanova posted their 18.4 record average earlier this month, with player-coach Martina Vavackova in the outside center slot.

Jan Klapka is not only the godfather of the 4-way junior project in the Czech Republic. He is also behind this team name. He walked by the three original Rusalky members one day when they were brushing their long and wet hair after training. He said that they looked like "water-fairies" and the team name was born...
