Did You Know...

... that Gary Smith, Joey Jones and David Grauwels discussed NSL Cloud Mondial January engineering?

NSL Live Talk Coaches Corner across the planet
posted Jan 13th, 2021 - Gary Smith, Joey Jones and David Grauwels discussed the results of the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 in detail last year in the Coaches Corner of NSL Live Talk. Then the NSL News update on January 11th mentioned that the discussion of a specific topic will be continued as soon as possible.

It was the thesis that more flexible engineering options could explain the scoring progression between 2010 and now, more than other factors that play a role in 4-way Formation Skydiving competition. The same NSL News update included some competition videos of the top performances at the FAI World Meet 2010 in Menzelinsk, Russia, which could be compared to videos of the top teams at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018 in Australia.

Next the NSL News invited the same panel to a new NSL Live Talk in the Coaches Corner, and it took Gary Smith, Joey Jones and David Grauwels only little time to coordinate their life agendas and volunteer their wealth of knowledge and experiences once again for the NSL News audience.

Even though they needed little time to get together for a new online Coaches Corner on Zoom, it was still the most challenging logistical situation in the history of this NSL News feature. The locations and time zones could not be much more different than they were on January 13th.

NSL Live Talk in the Coaches Corner with Joey Jones, David Grauwels, Gary Smith
Space Center FX at the FAI World Cup 1998
The NSL News recorded the conversation in the home office in DeLand, Florida, while Joey Jones was one hour behind in his current location in Texas. David Grauwels, father of 2021 baby girl Maxine, took a break from home chores in Belgium, seven hours ahead of Joey Jones in Texas.

Gary Smith had just arrived a few days ago in Qatar where he is coaching the Tigers through a military CISM competition. He was still in quarantine after arrival and before he will be able to meet with the team. He was another two hours ahead of David Grauwels. NMP PCH HayaBusa cannot train or travel to a training or competition site until all corona virus restrictions are lifted.

However, Gary Smith, Joey Jones and David Grauwels have become familiar with NSL Live Talk in the Coaches Corner online, and the logistical challenges did not hold them back from accepting the invitation and mastering schedule and time differences quickly.

David Grauwels will be back online this weekend with a related agenda, when the FAI/ISC annual meeting takes place without traveling to Bucharest in Rumania, where it was originally scheduled for. The complete competition schedule of FAI/ISC world meets and world cups for the coming years will be the main topic.

Gary Smith with Optic Nerve
The main topics for the new NSL Live Talk in the Coaches Corner were continuity plans and engineering between 2010 and 2020. However, yesterday's NSL News update from the archives brought Joey Jones and Gary Smith first back to a time when they were competing with Space Center FX (Joey Jones) and Optic Nerve (Gary Smith).

Space Center FX had won the FAI World Cup 1998, and both teams competed at the NSL Championship in December. The memories of the 1998 events still connected with the actual topic, while they also related to the time when Joey Jones and Gary Smith were team mates with DeLand Majik, FAI 4-way world champions of 2004.

It was the sequence for Round 10 of the NSL Cloud Mondial January 2021 that connected with the 2002 events. Block 3 offers different engineering options that Joey Jones and Gary Smith applied with DeLand Majik in 2002 and that they discussed with David Grauwels.

DeLand Majik were facing Block 3 several times in 2002 and remembered the most significant advantage for their different engineering in Round 4 of the FAI World Cup 2004. The highscore for the round was a significant factor in the battle for gold medals with Arizona Airspeed Vertical. Eventually, Gary Smith, Joey Jones and David Grauwels arrived together at discussing the complete engineering for the eleven rounds of the NSL Cloud Mondial January 2021...
