Did You Know...

... that Jean Billings and Kirk Verner completed 24 rounds on Saturday?

Quadruple duties: Jeana Billings with XPG4
posted Feb 27th, 2021 - The six rounds of 8-way competition on the first day of the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2021 were successfully and timely completed, as well. Many of the participants had indeed a total of 12 competition rounds behind them at the end of the day.

The latest NSL TV Unfiltered video clip brings the environment of the 8-way competition closer to the audience, and it features the U.S. national 8-way team Airspeed XP8.

All of the team members had double-duties at the event. Michelle Karamon and Jeana Billings competed with XPG4 in 4-way Open, Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine with Arizona Airspeed. The rest of the team (John D'Annunzio, Kirk Verner, Brian Krause, Matt Davidson) did not want to only watch the 4-way competition and joined forces to compete with XP4. Their three 4-way teams took three of the Top 5 positions on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard.

That was still not enough competition action for some AZXP8 members. Jeana Billings also competed as the player-coach for Eclipse in 4-way Intermediate, and she guided the all-female 8-way team QRF 1 through the first six rounds on the same leaderboard where she posted scores with Airspeed XP8. Her agenda on Saturday was completed after a total of 24 rounds.

Quadruple duties: Kirk Verner with XP4
Jeana Billings' Airspeed XP8 team mate Kirk Verner copied her agenda, with another 8-way team (QRF 2) on the Intermediate Class leaderboard. Then he joined Lightspeed for six more rounds in 4-way Open, while trying to stay close to the Golden Knights Gold with XP4.

Brian Krause had a lighter agenda with only one team in 4-way Open. He had his second 8-way team QRF 3 and was done after 18 rounds. Matt Davidson, Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine had only 12-round double-duties with Airspeed XP8 and their respective 4-way teams.

It happens that the U.S. national indoor and outdoor team in 8-way is also very close to setting a new record average at the same time. The Golden Knights finished with 32.4 at the Clash of Champions in Dubai 2015. Airspeeed XP8 has a 32.3 average on the leaderboard after Round 6, and the next sequence promises a score around 40 points.

Matt Davidson, Drew Starr and Jesse Stahler still own this historic 8-way average together at the moment, which may last only for another night. They took the extra time at the end of the day to bring back the memories of the event more than five years ago.
