Did You Know...

... that Airspeed's Chris Kuhlmann and Joey Marshall had time for NSL Live Talk on Saturday?

Arizona Airspeed engineering
posted Feb 28th, 2021 - The 4-way teams were back in the flying chamber at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2021 before Airspeed XP8 would get on the mission to finish the 8-way competition with a new record average.

It would require a high score for the first sequence on the second meet day. The very fast Round 7 offered the opportunity for that, and Airsped XP8 took it on with all energy they could muster. They came even close to breaking the standing 8-way indoor world record for a single round that the French 8-way team posted in Round 6 (M,Q,J,16) of the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019.

The judges did not like the aggressive performance that much and deducted a few points. However, the 39-pointer for Round 7 is still high enough to keep the momentum going in the direction of the record average.

The NSL News mentioned yesterday that Arizona Airspeed members Chris Kuhlmann and Joey Marshall were done for the day with their competition agenda as soon as the six 4-way rounds were completed. They still spent the rest of the day at Paraclete XP, and they had the time to discuss a few topics with the NSL News, while their team mates Niklas Hemlin and Mikhail Markine continued with Airspeed XP8 and added six more rounds in 8-way to their Saturday agenda.

12th Generation: Arizona Airspeed lineups between 1994 and 2021

The NSL Live Talk conversation began with the young history of the former Ranch 2nd Generation members. They have now become the next generation of Arizona Airspeed teams. They are in the 12th different 4-way lineup since the Airspeed project was launched in 1994.

Chris Kuhlmann then confirmed once again for all interested competitors that even the top teams have to deal with the special situation for each Round 1. He was overall happy with the Airspeed performance, while the performance in Round 1 was different, even though Airspeed won the meet opener by three points over SDC Rhythm XP.

The next topic was distraction control on the top level of Formation Skydiving competition. Chris Kuhlmann and Joey Marshall agreed that there is a lot of distraction at any competition that need to be mastered to deliver top performance. However, there are major differences between the distractions that are coming with exits from air planes compared to being in a fish-bowl in front of an audience in a flying chamber.

Arizona Airspeed also introduced a different entry into the flying chamber at earlier indoor events. Chris Kuhlmann and Joey Marshall explained what is going on when they touch the net with their feet on entry. They are also very happy to see their former R2G team mate Brenn Richards back in 4-way action. Eventually, new ways of engineering 4-way sequences became another topic, and Airspeed delivered a perfect example in Round 10 - which will be a part of a different story later...
