Did You Know...

... that online judging may even stay when events go back to live environment?

Online judging for live events?
posted Mar 20th, 2021 - Arizona Airspeed delivered a flawless performance in Round 2 sending a strong message to Belgium, where NMP PCH HayaBusa are still waiting for their restart. The Belgian army has not given the green light yet for normal training operation under the military umbrella.

The situation is similar to the one of the Golden Knights who had to cancel the visit at the Shamrock Showdown for army-specific reasons. Qatar's Formation Skydiving delegation, also supported by the government, is now back in action, and at least the Falcons are ready to join the 8-way leaderboard in the coming week.

The format of the Shamrock Showdown is a very special one and only tailored to fit the circumstances of the corona virus pandemic and its limitations and restrictions. The online part of it was a result of the cancellation and rescheduling of the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 and served the purpose of simulating an international high-profile event as a substitution for the world meet in Russia.

The international NSL Network and its regular meet synchronization provided the experiences and foundation for the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020, which brought most of the top teams in the world together on the same leaderboard without leaving their home countries.

Online Judging - Shamrock Showdown 2021 on Saturday morning
Live judging at Skydive City: Jim Rees
The Shamrock Showdown is a hybrid event, with the live part at Skydive City, and with teams from other parts in the world participating online. It is an exception for the Shamrock Showdown, as the NSL Cloud Mondial was for all teams in the fall of last year. Live events will hopefully soon become the default again.

However, the online judging system that InTime operator Dirk Venter has developed may stay in the future, even when events go back to live attendance. It does not only fit very well for a situation like the hybrid Shamrock Showdown, where the same judging panel will be able to still work together when the teams have left Skydive City.

It could be more efficient, especially financially, if the whole judging panel would not have to be present live at the event site. One chief judge could direct the judging procedure from the location where the competition takes place and help reduce the costs for the event significantly.

The new NSL TV Unfiltered video clip is showing Jim Rees working with Claire King and Dirk Venter in South Africa, while the teams boarded the Twin Otter at the beginning of the second meet day.

Strong statement in Round 2: Arizona Airspeed
Direct opponents: Doug Barron - Ben Liston
Four rounds could be completed in both events, with one scoring number missing in 8-way, before an incoming weather system interrupted the flow. The 4-way teams had to go on stand-by and wait for the completion of Round 5, which is the planned starting point for the Skins Game.

Even without the cash prizes the 4-way competition is tight and exciting. Arizona Airspeed have no opposition and are just displaying their team skills in an area where they been planning to catch up with the Belgian 4-way world champions. It's the random work and the extension of the engineering and continuity options, which was previously pointed out during the NSL Live Talk after the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2021.

Skydive Midwest NEXT and XPG4 battle once again for the upper hand that XPG4 had at the indoor meet. This time, NEXT are two points ahead after Round 4.

It's even closer between CPI Legacy, with Ben Liston in the lineup, and pick-up team Quiet Riot with player-coach Doug Barron. The New England team has a 1-point advantage after four rounds.
