Did You Know...

... that three VAF Warriors are now competing for Denmark's CISM delegation?

VAF Warriors with Joey Jones in 2012
posted Mar 30th, 2021 - The NSL News posted an update from Denmark on February 16th this year. Joey Jones and Hans Oksen explained in the NSL Live Talk what the Danish skydiving federation was planning for the near future.

Sky4LL and Subsonic, the two teams behind the winner at last year's national outdoor championships, had created a project plan for Formation Skydiving competition development together with the federation. Sky4LL will be the national 4-way Open Class team at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020, as the military 4-way team CISM Denmark decided not to compete in Russia this August.

The same story pointed out that the CISM team still continues with 4-way training and competition and with the same lineup as in the past, which will increase the competitive situation in Denmark. Sky4LL member Hans Oksen said that the two different team environments, military and civilian, are more separated than they were in the past.

CISM Denmark member John Petersen later confirmed the current separation of the military and civilian teams in Denmark and provided more details of the 4-way history. He and his current CISM Denmark team mates Anne Mine Petersen and Martin Mikkelsen are original members of the VAF Warriors who competed in and for Denmark between 2012 and 2017. The VAF Warriors had a reunion of the 2014 lineup with Henning Skov at the Danish Indoor Nationals 2019 and won the indoor event that took place in Berlin, Germany.

Martin Mikkelsen, Anne Mine and John Petersen then competed again at the outdoor championship last year, this time with their military lineup, CISM Denmark. Anders Bang and Peter Faaborg on camera completed the lineup that won the national outdoor title.

Martin Mikkelsen, Anne Mine and John Petersen currently own the Danish 4-way indoor title of 2019 with the VAF Warriors, and they are the 4-way outdoor champions with CISM Denmark. With the newly created 4-way project, Sky4LL and Subsonic are now aiming at interfering with the national dominance of the reigning indoor and outdoor champions.

John Petersen and Martin Mikkelsen joined the military CISM team in 2016. They have been full-time employees of the army since 2007 (Martin Mikkelsen) and 1998 (John Petersen). Since 2017 they have been on the mission to lift the level of 4-way competition in the Danish military, which eventually materialized with the outdoor title last year.

Anne Mine Petersen joined the CISM Denmark team in 2019 after becoming a Home Guard in 2019, Denmark's aquivalent of the National Guard in the United States. All three former VAF Warriors had to start training Accuracy at the same time in order to be eligible for participation at CISM championships. The current Danish military CISM delegation consists of 15 competitors, including three videographers. Five members are assigned to only Accessory competition, and ten members can compete in both events. All new CISM members must be able to perform in both disciplines). Only five members and one videographer will be selected for CISM championships.

Anne Mine Petersen would not be able to compete at a CISM World Championship with her 4-way team mates, as the CISM events separate female and male competitors. However, the Danish military allows her to be in the mixed lineup, as there are not enough female military competitors for a female 4-way team.

CISM Denmark without Anne Mine Petersen competed at the CISM world meets in 2018 (Hungary) and 2019 (China). The same male lineup also won the Danish Outdoor Nationals 2019 before Anne Mine Petersen joined the team the same year. She was then in the lineup that defended the outdoor title a year later.

This year, the Danish CISM 4-way team in Qatar will consist of five Accuracy competitors who will also attend the 4-way competition. This lineup will then compete in the A Class at the Danish Outdoor Nationals 2021. CISM Denmark with the three former VAF Warriors in the lineup don't know yet if they will be able to defend their outdoor title this year. The corona virus rules and regulations have put a question-mark behind training and competition at the national championships.

John Petersen said that the VAF Warriors could be back for more indoor competition one day...
