Did You Know...

... that the people were most important in New Zealand?

Before a long break: New Zealand's 4-way team at the FAI World Meet 2006
posted Apr 1st, 2021 - New Zealand had a quite consistent 4-way presence at FAI World Championships of Formation Skydiving after the current rules and regulations were set in place at the world meet in 1985. National 4-way teams from New Zealand missed only three events in the first 20 years between 1985 and 2006.

Then came a break of a whole decade with five world meets before team Method did not have to travel far to represent New Zealand at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018 in Australia.

The comeback came together with a change in hosting the national championships. New Zealand's teams competed at the Australian nationals since 2017 to determine their own national champions.

The pandemic changed the situation in both countries. New Zealand mastered the worldwide crisis better than most other countries in the world.

The country's host of the national championships between 2018 and 2020 did not even run a live event this year. Australia applied a similar online format for their nationals as the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 did, beginning in last year's fall.

New Zealand Outdoor Nationals 2021
The New Zealand Parachute Federation eventually decided to go back to hosting their own national championships this year at Skydive Auckland.

The federation's president, Sue Walsh, was the meet director and overall organizer, assisted by Lisa Chambers.

Brent Findlay reported from New Zealand that they put together a team of volunteers and ran a fun event.

The national championships included 4-way competition, with the three teams on the leaderboard, and also other disciplines as 2-way Formation Skydiving, Wingsuiting and Canopy Piloting over Skydive Auckland's new swooping pond.

Australia's national championships were also very successful with the online format. A total of 39 teams competed in the four NSL 4-way categories (AAA - AA - A - RRR). Additional four 8-way teams had two different leaderboards.

The NSL News will soon follow up with the results from Australia.

He Tangata - It is the People
The New Zealand Parachute Federation was very happy with the turnout and the comeback on home turf and posted a summary:

"Nationals 2021... it was all about the people. This event was organized and run by the NZPF (New Zealand Parachute Federation), with the support of some very awesome people. Big thanks to our friends across the ditch at (APF) Australian Parachute Federation who judged our 4-way comp remotely.

"Shout out also to Brent Findlay who advised a lot in the background and judged our 2-way comp. Thank you to Jason Dodunski and Nick McDonald who advised us on all things wingsuiting. So great to see wingsuiting represented at our Nationals. A huge shout out to Chris Stewart. Without him the Canopy Piloting comp simply could not have happened. We are so grateful to have you in our community Mr #Chris Stewart. Big thanks to Fiona McLaren and the whole team at Skydive Auckland. Thanks for having us and for being such good sports from start to finish.

"Finally, to all our volunteers who worked so hard to make this event happen, thank you. What is the most important thing in the world? It is the people, it is the people, it is the people. He tangata, he tangata, he tangata..."
