... that NMP PCH HayaBusa travel to Prostejov for exit training?

Jump plane at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020: L-410 Turbolet
posted Jun 16th, 2021 - NMP PCH HayaBusa were back in full training swing after the long break due to the corona virus crisis, as the NSL News reported on April 9th. The first training camp in Spain was compromised when Andy Grauwels had to return to Belgium.

The Belgian 4-way world champions had still completed their first 40 training jumps since September 2020, and they have continued with outdoor training ever since. They have been traveling back and forth between Prostejov in the Czech Republic and their home DZ in Spa, Belgium, as they explained during the new NSL Live Talk today.

They have arrived at the total number of 200 outdoor training jumps by now, and they hope to add another 200 before Round 1 at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020.

David Grauwels, new team videographer and 3-time world champion in HayaBusa's inside center slot, said that he is very pleased with the progression of the team and his replacement, Michele Silvi. He gave the newest HayaBusa member a lot of credit for his efforts to be well prepared for the big job and then following up with the performance that the team was hoping for when David Grauwels stepped back a year earlier than originally planned. David Grauwels also provided two videos of HayaBusa training jumps, which are showing Michele Silvi in his exit slot from a Cessna Caravan on HayaBusa home turf in Spa.

First FAI gold medals in 2014 from L-410 Turbolet
There is a very good reason why NMP PCH HayaBusa travel to Prostejov in the Czech Republic for regular training on the weekends at the beginning of each training camp. The jump plane for the world meet is a L-410 Turbolet, which is the same one that skydivers use in Prostejov.

The HayaBusa team members explained during the NSL Live Talk that the exits from this jump plane are very different compared to other ones at international events.

The most recent major Formation Skydiving events have been using Cessna Caravans and de Havilland's Twin Otters. The L-410 Turbolet is a twin-engine plane, as the Twin Otter is, while climbing out and setting up the exit formation on jump-run seems to be more similar to the single-engine Cessna Caravan. In fact, David Grauwels said that there is even more air pressure to master compared to the exits from the Cessna Caravan.

New inside center Michele Silvi has to deal with with the demanding slot facing the strong jump-run air of the L-410 Turbolet. Due to NMP PCH HayaBusa's right-hand pattern of the early exit days from Pilatus Porter right-hand doors, the inside and outside center slots are switched, and Michele Silvi performs the duties of the inside center slot exiting from outside of the plane.

First world meet with inside center Michele Silvi
Three NMP PCH HayaBusa team members have great memories of competition jumps from the L-410 Turbolet. David Grauwels was still in his inside center slot when the Belgians won their first 4-way world championship title at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2014. His brother Andy Grauwels and Dennis Praet won the first FAI 4-way title in Prostejov together with him, and with Roy Janssen in the tail slot. Danny Jacobs was their first world championship videographer.

The memories of the first time that they won the FAI gold medals are coming back, of course, when they now travel to Prostejov on a regular basis to get ready for the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020. David Grauwels has great advice for the new inside center outside of the plane, and he is once again impressed with Michele Silvi's exit performance, as well.

David Grauwels said that it requires a lot of physical strength to master the air pressure for exits from the L-410 Turbolet, and Michele Silvi seems to be living up to the challenge. The skydiving center in Prostejov is open only on weekends, and NMP PCH HayaBusa try to get as many exits from the jump plane as possible when they visit. Then they go back to their Cessna Caravan in Spa for freefall training. The whole team had to share very interesting thoughts of indoor and outdoor training, as well...
