Did You Know...

... that Chimera completed 22 competition rounds in June?

Chimera's current lineup
posted Jul 8th, 2021 - It was at the beginning of June when the British skydiving federation (British Skydiving) canceled the participation of the whole delegation at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020, as the NSL News reported on June 11th.

The cancellation came just a few days after 4-way competition had its comeback with the first 2021 meet of the United Kingdom Skydiving League. The British national team in 4-way Open, Chimera, had attended the first UKSL meet as a part of the outdoor preparations for the world meet in August.

It was the first outdoor competition with new Chimera member Will Cooke in the lineup, and the first one for the whole team since the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019. The UKSL meets are opportunities for all British 4-way teams to get ready for the national championships in September, and Chimera were looking for competition practice in the run-up to world meet and nationals both.

Chimera followed up with six more rounds at the second meet of the United Kingdom Skydiving League last weekend, even though the British Formation Skydiving teams would not travel to Russia in August. The competition practice was just as important for the national championships as it was for the world meet.

Chimera with Niklas Hemlin
The relevance of competition practice and experiences for Chimera and the team's coach, Arizona Airspeed member Niklas Hemlin, became even more obvious when they decided to add their own additional 4-way duel with the U.S. team Vega XP to the meet agenda. Niklas Hemlin has also been working with Vega XP, as the NSL News reported with earlier updates from Paraclete XP.

Chimera and Niklas Hemlin were planning to use the competition draw of the Arizona Skydiving League for the additional meet practice and post new scores on the ASL leaderboard, while performing the meet rounds on their home turf at Skydive Langar.

However, the ASL teams were using the competition draw for June that Chimera had already performed at the first UKSL meet of the year. At the same time, Niklas Hemlin and Vega XP had agreed to create the mini meet with Chimera for the additional competition practice, and both teams eventually used a new set of sequences for their own 4-way duel.

Chimera performed the first two rounds of this mini meet on the same ASL weekend at Skydive Arizona, even though they had a new set of AAA Class sequences for the new competition with Vega XP.

Vega XP with Niklas Hemlin
It turned out that the same 4-week time period became a very busy competition practice for Chimera. The British national team completed the 10-round challenge with Vega XP after the 6-round UKSL meet at the beginning of June and the two rounds on the ASL weekend.

Then Chimera continued with the next six UKSL rounds last weekend at Skydive Hibaldstow, which makes it a total of 22 meet rounds in June alone.

ASL co-directors Eliana Rodriguez and Michelle Karamon volunteered to evaluate the Vega XP vs. Chimera duel, as well, and the missing scores for the 10-round meet will be added very soon. The videos are now available for reviews without the scoring numbers.

Chimera had a similar duel with a U.S. team at the first UKSL meet and ended up behind Jerry and the Jets who performed the same competition draw at the first 2021 meet of the Southern California Skydiving League. Eliana Rodriguez was their indirect opponent at the beginning of June, and she is now looking once again very closely at the Chimera performance. More U.S. teams will join the July leaderboard later.
