Did You Know...

... that the Midwest Skydiving League features USPA medal contenders?

Close to Advanced Class medal level of 2019: SDC Rhevolution XP
posted Jul 21st, 2021 - Five teams of the Midwest Skydiving League League added new scores to the July leaderboard after last weekend's first competition of the 2021 season at Skydive Chicago.

SDC Rhythm XP member Steve Lefkowitz could enjoy watching the MWSL and Rhythm project teams continue with their progression towards the USPA Nationals at the end of October this year. The Midwest Skydiving League is generating some serious medal contenders under the Rhythm guidance.

SDC RhEvolution XP have arrived at very close proximity to the USPA Advanced Class medal level of 2019 (17.5 - 16.8 - 15.6) with the team's 15.0 average. The new lineup, which was formed in 2020, have increased their scoring and performance level from 11.9 at the NSL Cloud Mondial 2020 to last weekend's 15.0 within a year.

Matt Alarif, Alex Bucevicius, Chris Normandeau and Chris Webb still have more than three months to move even closer to the highest scoring level in USPA's Advanced Class. Steve Lefkowitz has scheduled two more Midwest Skydiving League meets, and SDC RhEvolution XP will be able bring a lot of meet experiences to Skydive Arizona.

On Intermediate Class medal level of 2019: SDC Rhebellion XP
SDC RhEvolution XP even stole the highscore for Round 1 on the July leaderboard from the British national team in 4-way Open, Chimera. They also outscored the Czech national team HF Flying Circus after all ten rounds of the July draw.

The second MWSL AAA Class team last weekend, SDC Rheology XP, was back in meet action after a break of a whole year. The team was formed in 2019 and competed at the USPA Nationals 2019 after starting at the August meet of the Midwest Skydiving League. Original Rheology members Marion Hanks, Dan Schultz and Joanne Stubbs came back with Brandy Verhalen in the inside center slot and Kevin Naftzger on camera.

SDC Rhebellion XP is on almost exactly the same path in the AA/Intermediate Class. The new team is even ahead of SDC RhEvolution XP on the road to USPA medals, as their 12.1 average last weekend would have won Intermediate Class silver medals at the USPA Nationals 2019.

The same three months and two MWSL meets give Rhebellion the opportunity to get into the position where they can compete for the top position, which came with Platinum XP's 13.3 average in 2019. SDC Rhebellion XP left no doubt about their goal of winning during the NSL Live Talk conversation in February at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship.

JaNette Lefkowitz with Sirens in 2006
The Midwest Skydiving League is also fielding once again a new A Class team. CSC Constellation attended the SDC Cloud Games in June and now came back for the first MWSL meet of the year.

The A Class has been a part of the Midwest Skydiving League since it was launched, and MWSL A Class scores have been posted on SKYLEAGUE.COM since 2004. Future AAA Class teams as the SDC Furies and Sirens started in this category. Reigning USPA 4-way Open Class champion JaNette Lefkowitz joined the Sirens in 2006, after the team moved up into the AA Class in 2005.

Several MWSL teams competed in the A Class in the past years, and before the new opportunity of attending the national championships in the same category is coming up. CSC Constellation is the first A Class team in the Midwest Skydiving League this year, and the 6.7 average is already significantly higher compared to the team's 4.5 in June.

In fact, the 6.7 average is a promising result. So far, only three U.S. teams have posted higher meet averages in the A Class this year. The same category (Beginners) will be a part of the USPA Nationals in October for the first time.
