Did You Know...

... that Chimera and Vega XP completed their June competition with all scores and videos?

Chimera in 2019
posted Jul 23rd, 2021 - The NSL News covered the 22 competition rounds of the British national team in 4-way Open, Chimera, with the update on July 8th. The information and scores were based on the June meet of the Arizona Skydiving League, which Chimera participated in remotely from their home turf in the United Kingdom.

Coach Niklas Hemlin had arranged an indirect duel on the meet weekend between Chimera and Vega XP, who he has been coaching both. The two teams applied a new AAA Class competition draw, as Chimera had already used the one for June earlier at the United Kingdom Skydiving League meet.

Both teams are training for their national championships and try to get competition practice before they compete for their national championship titles, Chimera at the end of August, Vega XP in October. Chimera was supposed to compete for the British delegation at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2021 first. The British Skydiving federation then canceled the participation of the whole delegation.

Chimera and Vega XP completed the ten rounds as soon as it was possible, and ASL co-directors Eliana Rodriguez and Michelle Karamon were the judges of the duel. The scores and videos of all eleven rounds in June are now available, and Chimera have already posted new scores after the July meet of the United Kingdom Skydiving League.

Chimera and Vega XP in June 2021
Vega XP in 2019
Neither the British teams nor the U.S. teams had a national championship event last year, due to the corona virus crisis. Chimera placed 2nd behind NFTO, the British national team in 4-way Women, at the UK Nationals 2019. Will Cooke has replaced Chris Judd in the meantime, and the new Chimera lineup will face a new NFTO lineup, with Julia Swallow for Kate Lindsley.

The two other British top contenders for the AAA Class top spot, NFTO and Eros, have not posted any scores this year, Eros not even since the previous national championship in 2019. NFTO competed only at the Wind Games indoor competition in January 2020.

Vega XP has a new lineup, as well. Annie and Ian Drennan, with James Hall and André Van Heerden replacing Brandon Kashani and Nicholas Walker, have also just attended an indoor competition so far, the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2021.

The Vega XP members are experienced outdoor competitors though, and enough outdoor training will put the team quickly to where they want to be at the USPA Nationals this year: in contention for the Advanced Class gold medals.

SDC RhEvolution XP lineup in 2019
New team member James Hall is in fact a defending champion in USPA's Advanced Class. He won with Redline XP in 2019. Vega XP placed 5th at the same event with the previous lineup, five points behind the bronze medal position.

There was a third team at the same event that was not in medal contention by then. In fact, the 2019 season was the first time for SDC Rhevolution XP's second lineup in the AAA Class. The first lineup had won the USPA silver medals in the AA/Intermediate Class of 2018, and the 2019 lineup competed in 4-way Advanced a year later.

Vega XP was a year and a USPA ranking position ahead of SDC Rhevolution XP. Annie Drennan and Ian Drennan, Julie Kleinwort and Nicholas Walker won the USPA 4-way Intermediate gold medals in 2017, with Amanda Kubik on camera. They had to move up into 4-way Advanced, according to the USPA rules, and they did. The 4-way Advanced Class leaderboard of 2019 eventually featured Vega XP and SDC Rhevolution XP on the same leaderboard for the first time.

It will happen again two years later. Both teams have new lineups, and SDC Rhevolution XP is ahead with outdoor competition, after an indirect 1-point battle with Vega XP (179 - 178) at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship 2021, and after two meets of the Carolina Skydiving League and the Midwest Skydiving League League last weekend. Vega XP and SDC Rhevolution XP still have almost three months to get ready for the next battle in 4-way Advanced at the USPA Nationals 2021.
