Did You Know...

... that the Advanced leaderboard of the USPA Nationals 2007 was a U.S. 4-way milestone?

4-way Advanced awards at the USPA Nationals 2007
posted Jul 23rd, 2021 - The winner of the USPA Advanced Class competition in 2007, Perris Aftermath, was only a 1-year project and did not follow the path to the 4-way Open leaderboard that Mass Defiance and Arizona Divewerkz had set in 2005 and 2006.

Aftermath prepared themselves for the USPA Nationals at the August meet of the new Southern California Skydiving League, which was enough to win the USPA gold medals with a new Advanced Class record average, as the NSL News pointed out on 3 October 2007.

The Perris team had left a statement at the end of the 6-round meet on home turf with a 16.0 average, and they carried the momentum on to Skydive Chicago a month later. The 15.8 average at the USPA Nationals lifted the performance level in the Advanced Class once again, even though it lasted only for one year.

Mass Defiance and Arizona Divewerkz competed at the same event, now in 4-way Open. AZDW lifted their own scoring level by more than an average-point, compared to the Advanced Class winning average in 2006, and Perris Aftermath were still able to match the 15.8 in 2007.

Midwest Skydiving League awards in 2007
Mass Defiance were a year ahead of Arizona Divewerkz on the 4-way Open leaderboard, and two years ahead of Perris Aftermath as the 4-way Advanced Class champions.

The original Mass Defiance lineup was already at 16.7 in 2006 and 19.3 at AZDW's first appearance on the 4-way Open leaderboard.

The 4-way Advanced leaderboard of 2007 was still a big mile-stone in U.S. 4-way competition, even though the new Advanced Class winner did not come back after winning USPA gold medals in 2007.

The 2007 season was the first competition season for SDC Rhythm XP, who were home at Chicagoland Skydiving at that time and posted scores under CSC Rhythm.

The original lineup competed only once in the AA Class at the Shamrock Showdown 2007 and followed up in the AAA Class at two meets of the Midwest Skydiving League.

The 14.5 average behind Perris Aftermath and Perris Katalyst at the national championships in 2007 was the beginning of a unique team career that continued with USPA Advanced Class gold medals and a new record average in this category a year later.

CSC Rhythm at the USPA Nationals 2007

SDC Rhythm XP is now the only 4-way Advanced champion in USPA history who continued in 4-way Open and then won USPA gold medals later. The 1st place at the USPA Nationals 2019 also qualified SDC Rhythm XP as the U.S. national team in 4-way Open, and Rhythm will compete for the U.S. delegation at the FAI Tanay Mondial next month.

Robert Chromy was still Rhythm's player-coach at the USPA Nationals 2007, after starting with JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz, Laurent Beaudouin and Kevin Nafzger (Video) in the AA Class competition of the Shamrock Showdown.

However, Rhythm with player-coach Robert Chromy were only a guest team at the USPA Nationals 2007. JaNette and Steve Lefkowitz, Laurent Beaudouin and team videographer Kevin Nafzger thus decided to recruit a new team member to replace the player-coach, and Brian Ball joined the team.

The door to USPA medals was now open, and Rhythm came back for one more USPA Nationals in 4-way Advanced. That's the beginning of the next segment in USPA's Advanced Class history...
