Did You Know...

... that 4Astrophe defended the Canadian 4-way title successfully?

First 4Astrophe competition with all three Bissons in 2018
posted Jul 26th, 2021 - It was almost exactly two years ago, after the national championships, when the last scores of Canadian 4-way teams were posted on the NSL website. It was the first time that the Bisson family team (father Richard, daughter Valerie, son Yannick, plus Nicolas Malley and Sean Paquette on camera) won the Canadian 4-way title.

The even more successful Lemay family (father Michel, sons Martin, Vincent, Benoit) had dominated 4-way competition in Canada between 2005 and 2017. Martin, Vincent and Benoit Lemay, with Katie Woods, Jean Christophe Ouimet and videographer Jean-Sebastien Vadeboncoeur in their 4-way Open and VFS lineups, had won two sets of bronze medals at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2014, which is still a historic accomplishment in Formation Skydiving competition.

Evolution continued with substitutes and different lineups throughout the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018, where the identical lineup (Martin, Vincent and Benoit Lemay, Jean Christophe Ouimet and videographer Jean-Sebastien Vadeboncoeur) competed in both events and won VFS silver medals.

Evolution then retired as a team, and the door opened for the next family team to take Canada's 4-way top position, 4Astrophe.

Evolution still won the national championships in 2017, and 4Astrophe was only in 3rd place. Valerie Bisson was still training and competing with Fuzion Voltige, Canada's national team in 4-way Women.

She had joined Fuzion when she had just turned 18 in 2014, and the Canadian team finished in 4th place at the same world meet where the three Lemay brothers won their double set of FAI bronze medals.

Fuzion with Valerie Bisson were even closer to bronze medals at the next FAI world meet in 2016. They finished only four points behind NFTO, who took the bronze medal position. Fuzion tried one more time in 2018 with a new lineup, and without Valerie Bisson.

The new lineup was in an exciting battle with three other teams for the 3rd place in 4-way Women, and again they finished short of the first set of FAI medals.

Valerie Bisson had joined her family team 4Astrophe, while her former team mates trained and competed for the next world meet in 2018. For the first time, they were opponents at the Canadian Indoor Nationals 2018, and 4Astrophe, now with with three Bissons in the lineup, were not far behind Fuzion.

4Astrophe had also taken it to the skies in 2017 when Yannick Bisson was ready to begin with outdoor skydiving. He joined 4Astrophe and his father Richard Bisson for the first time at the Canadian Outdoor Nationals 2017, when his sister was still competing with Fuzion.

A year later, Valerie Bisson also joined the family team for the Canadian Indoor Nationals 2018, where they were facing Fuzion with Valerie Bisson's former team mates. Another year later, Valerie and Yannick Bisson finally jumped from planes together in a 4-way competition and won their first Canadian 4-way title together with their father.

The same 4Astrophe lineup of 2018 and 2019 were now back to defend their 2019 title and succeeded with a new team record outdoor average after the 2-year break.

Two Fuzion members (Janylene Breton, Stephanie Longchamps) were also competing at this year's national championship with a modified and mixed Fuzion lineup, and Fuzion's team videographer Martin Casgrain was filming Flying Fuzion. Altitude finished the 8-round meet with their first double-digit average in the AAA Class.
