... that six Texas Skydiving League teams completed the July leaderboard?

posted Aug 4th, 2021 - Six more teams from Texas completed the NSL July leaderboard, which is now featuring a total of 27 teams in the four NSL outdoor categories (AAA - AA - A - RRR).

Two of the teams on the AAA Class leaderboard in July are actually national teams who will also compete for their countries at the upcoming FAI Tanay Mondial 2021. The AAA Class leader, British national team in 4-way Open Chimera, were planning to compete in Russia, as well. However, the British Formation Skydiving delegation withdrew from the event, as the NSL News reported on June 11th, and Chimera are now getting ready for the national outdoor championships instead.

Aviatrixx, U.S. national team in 4-way Women, is registered for the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 and will be facing three other teams in this category at the world meet (France, Russia, Poland). The NSL News mentioned on July 14th that Aviatrixx were training at Paraclete in preparation for the trip to Russia.

Katrina Shows was in the active Aviatrixx lineup to replace Rhonda Wilcox after an injury, and the world meet lineup used the eight rounds of the Texas Skydiving League meet for the last competition warmup opportunity.

On the way to Tanay: Flying Circus
Aviatrixx and SDC RhEvolution XP were tied in 2nd place behind Chimera on the July leaderboard, followed by the second national team that plans to compete at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020. Flying Circus is registered for the Czech Republic as the country's national team in 4-way Open.

Flying Circus completed the ten rounds in July with the complete lineup and added ten more rounds last weekend at the Czech Outdoor Nationals 2021. The NSL News explained earlier this week that Jan Klapka had to fill the point slot for Dagmar Bezdeková at the meet with the second set of ten rounds. The Czech national team in 4-way Open will compete with eleven other national teams at the world meet in Tanay.

Texas Skydiving League director Scott Latinis reported that the competition at Skydive Spaceland Houston included a judge's course during the week leading up to the meet. Randy Connell conducted the course, and six judging candidates had the most realistic competition test on the meet weekend.

Chief Judge Randy Connell, his assistant Jim Rees, and the judges in training were not shy of calling the infringements, as the red marks on the leaderboards are showing. Scott Latinis said that Randy Connell and Jim Rees together have judged Formation Skydiving competition at a total of 20 USPA Nationals, with each serving as chief judge twice.

A Class winner: CSC Constellation
Randy Connell and Jim Rees both had the opportunity to familiarize themselves and the judges in training with the new USPA category, which will be tested as the "4-way Beginner Class" at this year's national championships.

Scott Latinis explained how the Texas Skydiving League has been using the identical NSL category for a long time:

"Like all other skydiving leagues, the Texas Skydiving League uses the NSL draw for its meets. In past Pre-Nationals, this caused some confusion because the Pre-Nationals would use the USPA 4-way divisions - Open, Advanced, Intermediate - instead of the NSL AAA, AA, A, Rookie divisions. With the introduction of the Beginner Class as a test event at the USPA Nationals, NSL and USPA are now aligned, excluding the NSL Rookie Class."

Two teams from Texas competed in the A/Beginner Class at Skydive Spaceland Houston, and Dallas Distraction took the 2nd place on the July leaderboard, three points behind CSC Constellation of the Midwest Skydiving League. Toxic Lead, who had started on the A Class leaderboard in April, competed in the AA Class this time with a different lineup.
