Did You Know...

... that 4-way teams from Texas are regular USPA medal contenders?

Spaceland Blue with coach Thomas Hughes in Menzelinsk 2010
posted Aug 26th, 2021 - Teams from Texas have played a major role in U.S. Formation Skydiving competition and have won many medals at USPA Nationals in the past. The Texas Skydiving League was one of the earliest 4-way leagues in the United States, together with Florida and Georgia, and the regular meets were surely instrumental for competitive teams on the way to USPA medals.

Texas team Convergence represented the Texas Skydiving League at the first NSL Championship event in 1998, and one of the most experienced Formation Skydiving competitors in the United States, Scott Latinis, is currently offering regular meets for his local and regional teams as the TSL Director.

Teams from Texas have won their medals mostly in the USPA 4-way categories behind the 4-way Open Class, while former Advanced Class champions, such as Spaceland Lite and Dallas 350, and other AAA Class teams still volunteered for the 4-way Open Class leaderboard.

4-way Women teams from Texas competed for the U.S. delegations twice at world meets, after qualifying as the highest-ranking 4-way Women teams on the 4-way Open Class leaderboards, Spaceland Blue in Menzelinsk 2010, Aviatrixx this month at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020.

Aviatrixx delegation at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 this month
Aviatrixx did not finish in the medal positions at the world meet in a very unfortunate way, as the NSL News reported on August 17th. However, the Texas team is still the reigning 4-way Women champion team in the United States, and they may try to defend the position on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard of the USPA Nationals 2021.

Teams from Texas did not win any USPA 4-way medals in 2019, even though Spaceland Toxic ended up only two points behind the 3rd place and three points behind the silver medal position on the AA/Intermediate Class leaderboard. A new Toxic lineup with two new members (Angela Scoggins, Rich Delgado) started in 2020 and were back at the TSL 2021 season opener, the Spaceland San Marcos Showdown in April.

Spaceland Toxic did not compete at the Spaceland Houston Pre-Nationals, where three other Texas teams used the eight rounds to get more competition practice before the upcoming Dallas Super Cup in September and the USPA Nationals in October.

Toxic Thunder finished with a new team record average by the same lineup who competed at the April meet.

A Class team Dallas Distraction at the TSL April meet
The Texas Skydiving League could also be represented in the new A/Beginner Class of this year's USPA Nationals. This category has been a part of the TSL format from the very beginning and since the first TSL scores were posted on SKYLEAGUE.COM in August 2000, when six teams competed in the A Class.

This year, A Class teams will have the opportunity to win USPA medals, as well, at the national championships in Eloy in October. Toxic Lead and Dallas Distraction have been the strongest A Class teams in Texas this year.

Toxic Lead moved up into the AA Class after the Spaceland San Marcos Showdown in April and finished on the same scoring level at Spaceland Houston in the more challenging category.

Dallas Distraction started with 5.5 behind Toxic Lead in April and were up to a 6.2 average in the same category last month. There is no data available of A Class scores at USPA Nationals, and all registered A Class teams will find out how competitive the event is after the first of six scheduled rounds from a 12,000 ft. exit altitude.
