Did You Know...

... that MicroClim8 and Airbus can only compare their scores indirectly?

Chimeros in 8-way action
posted Sep 7th, 2021 - The difficulties of participating at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 have not kept the skydiving federations from running their national championships. The NSL News have covered a few of them already, and it continues to be a very busy time of the year.

The Netherlands, Poland and Belgium completed their events last weekend, together with the 8-way teams in Great Britain, and Germany's 4-way competition is now in full swing. The NSL News will give each event as much attention as possible.

An earlier update from the UK Nationals 2021 mentioned that two of the three strongest British 4-way teams (Chimera, Eros) joined forces to challenge MicroClim8, the British national 8-way team and defending champions, at the 8-way competition last weekend. Chimeros eventually won Round 2 and remained within striking distance for the first five rounds until MicroClim8 pulled away with the consistency of a well trained 8-way team.

MicroClim8 won their 9th British 8-way title since 2011. They were defeated only once in 2015 when Ex-Presidents upset them with a similar pickup team of strong and experienced British competitors, as the Chimeros lineup tried last weekend.

MicroClim8 were back in the British 8-way top spot in August 2016 and competed for the British Formation Skydiving delegation at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2016 less than a month later.

This year's MicroClim8 lineup was once again a combination of seasoned 8-way experts with only one new member, Maria Russell. However, she collected plenty of 8-way experiences with the Brit Chicks 8-way team and competed in 4-way on the British top level years ago with NFTO, as well.

MicroClim8 had peaked with a 15.2 average at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018, where they had to fend off the charging Australian home team, and the 2018 lineup finished in 4th place at Gold Coast. Six of the 2018 members (Ane Brentford, Ruth Morrison, Phil Hartree, Dennis Parker, Andy Pook, Martin Soulsby) were back last week to win their next national 8-way title.

The members of the 2021 lineup were actually planning to compete at the world meet in Tanay, of course. That's where they would have met once again their regular opponents from Germany, the Airbus 8-way team. Both 8-way teams withdrew from participating in the 8-way competition. They can still at least compare their current performance level indirectly very soon. The German 8-way competition begins after the completion of the ten 4-way rounds.
