Did You Know...

... that the first nine rounds in Germany are warmups for the Super Sequence?

New lineup: Skynamite
posted Sep 7th, 2021 - The German Outdoor Nationals 2021 are in full swing at the Fallschirmsportzentrum Saar, host of the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2017. In fact, it's half-time in 4-way for the 20 teams on three leaderboards.

There is actually a fourth leaderboard for the two teams in 4-way Women, who are officially competing at their own event in Germany. It is an exciting part of the German national championship event, as a new team, Meltemi Illertissen, challenges the reigning 4-way Women champion and national team, Skynamite.

The NSL News reported on May 26th that Skynamite had to re-build the team after Sandra Dederichs and Verena Juergens stepped back. Shaline Dincher and Katharina Reiß eventually joined forces with Sylvia Schlaphof and Yasmin Schütte, Ralph Wilhelm is on camera.

Three experienced German 4-way Women competitors (Linda Köb, Stephanie Meyer, Susa Serra) may have seen an opportunity to take the German top spot in 4-way Women and invited Petra Jastram for a slot in the new Meltemi Illertissen lineup, with Traggi Jung on camera. Result of this 4-way Women duel is a 2-point battle after the first five rounds.

Oceanside AtomiX - Airbus Illertissen in Round 2 - Bardarbunga in Round 3
Super Sequence in Round 10 of the German Outdoor Nationals 2021
New team: Maltemi Illertissen
The NSL News also pointed out on August 19th that the usual 2-team battle for the top spot in 4-way Open could become a 3-team affair this year. Oceanside AtomiX and Airbus Illertissen had to master their own re-buildings, and the Bardarbunga mix of highly experienced 4-way and 8-way competitors may interfere in the pursuit of the German top spot.

This really happened in the first three rounds. Bardarbunga was in 1st place after winning or tying the first three highscores, while AtomiX and Airbus were mostly watching each other round by round.

It is still a horse race in 4-way Open, even though Bardarbunga lost their lead in the next two rounds. It seems like the better trained 4-way teams are finding their competition mode now and exchange blows, back and forth. However, Bardarbunga, with four members of the Airbus 8-way team, are determined to come back on the second day the same way as they started into the competition.

The first nine rounds are probably only warmup opportunities for the Grande Finale in Round 10. The fast Super Sequence (B,F,D,E,A) will eventually bring the conclusion of the German Nationals 2021. Every team that is still somehow within striking distance for the top spot, or for any medals, could make up more than enough ground only in the last round. And the leaders will have to watch out very carefully...
