Did You Know...

... that iFLY Dallas has a clean Indoor Cloud League scoring record for 2021?

iFLY Dallas team in August 2021
posted Oct 7th, 2021 - Kyle Hermberg's Indoor Cloud League team at iFLY Dallas is the only participating indoor group that has not missed any of the monthly sequences this year.

He did have his own pandemic-related break though, as there were no events at iFLY Dallas between April and September 2020.

The iFLY Dallas team ended up in 4th place on the broken annual ICL leaderboard of 2020. There was no ICL team during the worst time period of the corona virus crisis that came through the year without missing scores. Hurricane Factory and Paraclete XP made the best out of it with three missing months each.

The 2021 leaderboard does not look much better, as the pandemic has still been raging across the planet and caused interruptions in all areas of life. However, there are signs of changes to the better, mostly caused by the “herd immunity” on the horizon.

The Hurricane Factory has been back on the leaderboard each month since May, and Kyle Hermberg's iFLY Dallas team has not missed a month this year.

iFLY Dallas team in 2016
The 1st place of iFLY Dallas on the 2021 leaderboard at the end of August could be attributed to the lack of competition. However, this does not give the Texas team the deserved credit.

It is a fact that the total of 869 ICL points on the 14+ leaderboard is one of the highest numbers at this point in time that any iFLY Dallas team has posted since joining the Indoor Cloud League in April 2014.

Only the total of 922 points at the end of August 2016 was higher, and it was heavily supported by the missing 25-point limit of the scores for R and RR sequences at that time. The 25-point rule for R and RR was introduced for the 2018 season.

However, the current total of 869 points for iFLY Dallas is not far from the 922 points in 2016, which included a total of 50 points above the 25-point limit in the two Rookie Class categories. In fact, the scoring numbers would even be almost identical (872 - 869) after applying the current rule.

The iFLY Dallas is currently miles ahead of the last complete ICL total numbers at the end of August in 2017 (703) and 2019 (693).

Kyle Hermberg has not been using the easiest sequences of the Indoor Cloud League categories to boost the monthly total anyway. He and his assistant coaches, currently including former Dallas 350 member and USPA Advanced Class champion, Lucas King, have dedicated the ICL events to increase the 4-way skills level in this area of Texas:

"The iFLY Dallas team continues to focus on helping less experienced jumpers learn more about FS by pairing them with more experienced jumpers. Dallas Distraction did not fly as a team in August, and we substituted Donaldo Grajeda as a coach. Dynasty members spread their experience across several teams."

The numbers are supporting the goal of his mission. The increased skills level of the ICL participants will naturally generate higher scores in the longer term, and the August results speak once again their own language.

Hopefully, the other ICL teams on the annual leaderboards will soon return, as well, and offer the same opportunities in as many other areas as possible. In the meantime, Kyle Hermberg and his coaches will probably be guiding the iFLY Dallas team to a new record total for the year...
