Did You Know...

... that Swiss 4-way teams were back after a long break?

Airheads at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019
posted Nov 20th, 2021 - Switzerland had a comeback into Formation Skydiving competition this month, as well. The corona virus pandemic had brought training and competition for most of the teams to a complete halt. The strongest Swiss 4-way team, Airheads, did not even have any plans for a comeback and decided to join the small field of teams at the national indoor championships without much preparation.

Airheads have been the Swiss national indoor and outdoor team in the past years, and they competed for the Swiss Army at the military CISM world championships, as well. The new Swiss CISM team was on the same leaderboard with the Airheads this month, while the currently running CISM event in Qatar is attended by neither of the two teams.

Airheads still won the national indoor title at their reunion without too much trouble, even though the distance to the team in 2nd place has shrunken significantly. The same Airheads lineup had finished with a very impressive 29.2 average at the FAI Indoor World Meet 2019, where they even challenged the Qatar Tigers for the 4th place.

The Swiss national team of the past years had also easily made the Top 10 at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018 in Australia, where they placed 7th with a 20.1 average.

Airheads at the FAI Outdoor World Meet 2018
-------------------------------- The much closer distance to Realfly Fire in 2nd place this month was not only caused by the long time without training and competition for Airheads. The runner-up did their own share to get closer and increased their own performance and scoring level almost by the same margin as Airheads dropped theirs.

Airheads still won by 12 points, however, Realfly Fire won three rounds and tied another one. The new challenger had posted a 20.1 average at the Wind Games 2020, after launching the team project with a 2nd place in the AA Class competition of the ISR Grand Prix 2019. The 23.5 average this month is a statement in itself and a very encouraging result for the team.

Realfly Fire did not really train much more than Airheads. All 4-way activities in Switzerland stopped after the trip to Spain for the Wind Games. Realfly Fire resumed with indoor training in June 2021 to prepare for the indoor championship and the ISR Grand Prix in November.

They were planning to return to the same place where they started in 2019, this time on the AAA Class leaderboard, of course.

Realfly Fire at the ISR Grand Prix 2019
Unfortunately, this year's Grand Prix in Roosendaal fell victim to the pandemic, as well, and Realfly Fire could not show off their AAA Class competition skills on the 23+ level. The same scoring level would have been in medal contention on the AAA leaderboard at the last Grand Prix. Realfly Fire is now looking for new competition opportunities.

The Hurricane Factory is not too far from Switzerland, and Jan Klapka has just started the indoor winter season with monthly meets of the Czech Tunnel League. Some of the Czech teams are posting scores on a very similar level. In fact, the 4-way junior team HF Flying Rebels outscored Realfly Fire in Roosendaal 2019 by two points, and the HF Cubs just posted a 24.2 average in Poland. A trip from Switzerland to the Czech Republic would probably be a worthy opportunity.

Realfly Fire surprised themselves somehow by outscoring the CISM team Motion Windwerk, who came back on the same scoring level as in February 2020 when a different CISM lineup attended the last meet in Germany before the shutdown.

The 4-way Women team EOS had competed at the same event and finished with a significantly higher meet average, as well. Air-W, a frequent visitor at German outdoor events in Illertissen, posted their first indoor scores in the NSL News records.
