Did You Know...

... that the HF Flying Rebels seem to copy Jan Klapka's strategy to Czech junior success?

AA Class at the ISR Grand Prix in November 2018
posted Nov 28th, 2021 - The NSL News has pointed out regularly that the Czech Republic is still the home of the reigning 4-way Junior world champions, the HF Cubs, who have now moved forward to compete in 4-way Women at the next FAI Indoor World Cup in April 2022.

Related updates also explained that the Czech Republic's 4-way godfather Jan Klapka has assigned the HF Flying Rebels as the Czech 4-way junior team who will try to defend the world's top position in this category at the next FAI indoor event.

It will not be an indoor world championship in Charleroi, Belgium, in April next year, as the event schedules across the planet have changed due to the corona virus crisis. FAI indoor and outdoor world meets and world cups take turns year by year, and the outdoor world meet in Eloy 2022 makes the indoor event a world cup. The next indoor world meet is scheduled for April 2023 in Slovakia, and that's the event where the HF Flying Rebels will officially compete for the next world championship title.

However, the world's FAI indoor top spot is still on stake when teams will travel to Charleroi in Belgium next April. The difference is only the higher number of participating teams per nation (up to four) at world cups.

HF Cubs - HF Flying Rebels - HF Chameleons at the Flyspot Open 2021
AAA Class in December 2018
It is naturally more challenging for a nation to defend a world championship title in 4-way Junior, compared to the senior events (4-way Open, 4-way Women), which have no age or any other restrictions, except for the nationality. The reigning world champions can defend the title as many times as they want to.

It is quite unlikely that a country can send the same world champion team to the next indoor world meet in 4-way Junior. The team members have probably grown out of the age limit, which is at the completion of 15 years. The HF Cubs and the French national junior team of 2019 are the most recent examples.

Jan Klapka has been prepared for this situation, and he has no shortage of 4-way juniors getting ready for competition and FAI events. However, building a world champion team is still a different story, and the HF Flying Rebels are facing the challenge of defending the Czech 4-way junior top spot in the world next year in Belgium. A year later, the indoor world championship title is back on stake in Slovakia.

A part of Jan Klapka's plan to guide the HF Cubs to the FAI gold medals at Weembi 2019 was challenging the young 4-way team with the complete FAI dive pool (AAA) before the junior competition. FAI's 4-way Junior event is identical with AA competition, which includes all 16 random formations and 16 of the 22 blocks, leaving out the potentially slot-switching maneuvers. The sequences are shorter, with four or five formations per round. The event completes after eight rounds.

FAI 4-way Junior gold medals in April 2019
Jan Klapka sent the HF Cubs into the much more challenging AAA Class competition world several months before the 4-way junior competition at the indoor world meet. The return to the significantly easier AA Class sequences at the 4-way junior event would probably increase the pace and the scoring level.

It worked out perfectly for Jan Klapka and the HF Cubs. They attended six AAA Class meets, beginning in November 2018, and the team was ready for the world champion performance and a 30.3 average in 4-way Junior in April 2019.

It seems like Jan Klapka is applying the same strategy with the new Czech national team in 4-way Junior, the HF Flying Rebels. The team's lineup, with four new Czech 4-way juniors, entered the AAA Class world this month, after a first attempt in December 2020. The corona virus crisis stopped this plan quickly, and it was now resumed.

It is difficult to follow the path of a world champion team like the HF Cubs, however, the HF Flying Rebels still seem to be on track to copy the Cub's success and Jan Klapka's strategy. They have attended three AAA Class events by now and will probably add monthly meet AAA practice until April 2022. The 20.2 average earlier this month is almost exactly on the same scoring level where the HF Cubs were in November 2018. The HF Chameleons juniors follow the same pattern, and the former HF Cubs juniors are the role models on the current AAA Class leaderboards. Jan Klapka's same strategy could work once again.
