The NSL News explained on December 1st how the different competition format scrambled the 4-way medal positions. It was a close call in 4-way, as the three teams in the rankings behind the winner, Aerokart, were separated by only two points. It was one of the closest medal rankings at any event this year, and the positions on the final leaderboard could have been different easily. The different format pushed the team in 2nd place on the traditional leaderboard, Unicorns, to the 4th place at the Weembinamic.
None of the teams in the medal positions on the traditional 8-way leaderboard were pushed from the podium at the Weembinamic. In fact, the point differences between the teams were much wider compared to the 4-way competition. The situation on the very top was the same as in 4-way, where the high-profile Aerokart lineup had won without any opposition.
There was also no serious 8-way opponent for a very strong Veloce QRF lineup, and the Odin 8-way team finished eight points ahead of After 8 Weembi in 2nd place on the traditional leaderboard.

It was the two quarterfinal rounds (5 and 6) when Odin's 8-way lineup managed only a tie (39 - 39) with Otter 2.0, the team in 5th place on the traditional leaderboard. Otter 2.0 won this elimination duel without a penalty and advanced to the semifinals, where they were eliminated by Veloce QRF.
Odin won all their remaining four rounds and ended up in 3rd place on the Weembinamic podium, even though they were 8 points ahead of the team in 3rd place. After 8, the silver medalists, had won their quarterfinal rounds over the Veloce QRF 2 lineup (4th) and the semifinals over Veloce QRF and Otter 2.0.
The biggest upset could have happened right there in Rounds 7 and 8, as the clear winner, Veloce QRF, lost to After 8 in the semifinals (39 - 38). However, three teams were facing each other in this case, and two advanced into the finals. After 8 and Veloce QRF faced each other again for the last two rounds, and After 8 could not repeat the upset of the semifinals.

Veloce QRF walked away with one black eye after the semifinals, where they missed the highscores in two consecutive rounds. The weak phase of the winner came with perfect timing, as the pairings allow two teams to advance once in a while when it is necessary to generate the elimination rounds.
Veloce QRF competed with one of the strongest lineups in the team's history. Brian Krause, Airspeed XP8 world champion at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020 provided QRF with the most current 8-way technology, and he was assisted by Martial Ferre and Marco Arrigo.
The other five QRF members have been training and competing with the international 8-way team mostly at indoor events for several years. The Veloce QRF teams usually visit Paraclete XP for the annual 8-way indoor competitions in February.
