Did You Know...

... that Germany's national indoor and outdoor teams are split in 4-way Women?

Linda Köb with Meltemi at the German Outdoor Nationals 2021
posted Dec 12th, 2021 - The recent visit of the German national team in 4-way Open, Airbus Oceanside Illertissen, was an opportunity for the NSL News to learn more about the team plans for the next world meet season in 2022. However, Airbus also provided other interesting Formation Skydiving competition news from their country.

The German situation in 4-way Women has been catching the attention of the NSL News several times, as well, especially after the national team Skynamite's 2018 lineup disbanded and made new plans with two new team members. The NSL News covered the personnel change with the update on May 26th.

The new Skynamite lineup (Shaline Dincher, Katharina Reiß, Sylvia Schlaphof, Yasmin Schütte, Ralph Wilhelm on camera) competed at the German Outdoor Nationals this year and finished with exactly the same 14.3 average that the previous lineup had posted at the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019.

It was yet not enough to win the new qualification for the next outdoor world meet in Eloy 2022. A new team with experienced 4-way competitors, Meltemi Illertissen, finished with a 15.5 average in 4th place on the 4-way Open Class leaderboard and will compete for the German Formation Skydiving delegation.

Meltemi Illertissen - Skynamite at the German Outdoor Nationals 2021
Linda Köb with Airbus 8-way at the FAI Outdoor World in Eloy 2019
The Meltemi lineup includes Linda Köb, current member of the German 8-way team, Airbus München. The 8-way team will probably have a lighter training schedule next year, and she will be able to go well prepared into the 4-way and 8-way double duties in Eloy 2022.

Linda Köb has to master an additional 4-way task on top of the outdoor training and competition with the German world meet delegation. She is also in the Piteraq lineup, the 4-way Women team that finished right behind Skynamite at the last German indoor championships in March 2019.

Piteraq plan to compete at the FAI Indoor World Cup in Belgium in April 2022. Winner Skynamite will not be eligible as Germany's national team in 4-way Women after the personnel changes.

However, both teams could compete at the world cup anyway, as each country can sanction a total of four teams for a world cup.

Linda Köb's Meltemi outdoor team mate Susa Serra is also in the Piteraq lineup for the indoor world cup, together with Sylvia Maier and new member Petra Jastram.

Skynamite - Piteraq at the German Indoor Nationals 2019
Andrea Kleinschmidt with Skynamite at the FAI Outdoor World in Eloy 2019
Linda Köb and Susa Serra will not compete together at the FAI Outdoor World Meet next year though. Susa Serra could not commit to both teams' indoor and outdoor plans, and Meltemi needed to find an adequate substitute. This turned out to be not too difficult, due to this year's events in Germany's 4-way Open Class world.

The NSL News mentioned on July 28th that Andrea Kleinschmidt and Holger Sass would not continue with Oceanside AtomiX after the cancellation of German participation at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020. Andrea Kleinschmidt was ready to fill the open slot for Meltemi, and she recently committed to the plans for 2022.

Andrea Kleinschmidt is used to helping out when it is possible. She did the same while she was still training and competing with AtomiX. Skynamite needed a substitute for their trip to Arizona for the FAI Outdoor World Cup 2019, after Janine Tillenburg left the team earlier the same year. Linda Köb helped out at Germany's national championships, and Andrea Kleinschmidt took the slot for the world cup, where Linda Köb wanted to focus only on her 8-way job.

Andrea Kleinschmidt and Linda Köb have not been team mates yet, and they will now go to the world meet in Eloy together, where they both competed in October 2019. It will be a busy year for Linda Köb...
