... that FAI Indoor World Cup host Airspace held the Belgian Indoor Nationals in Charleroi?

4-way awards at the Belgian Indoor Nationals 2018
posted Dec 31st, 2021 - Airspace in Charleroi, Belgium, was once again the host of the Belgian Indoor Nationals in December, the same time of the year when the previous events have taken place since 2017.

The inaugural 2017 event at Fly-In Liege was more than promising, as 21 teams competed in all four NSL categories (AAA - AA - A - RRR), including guest teams from other European countries. Liege and Charleroi are both located in the center of a very active skydiving region, very near the border between France and Belgium, with Weembi Lille and the skydiving center in Maubeuge just around the corner.

Teams from the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany regularly cross the open European borders, with visitors from even further away. Italian 4-way teams have competed at the Belgian Indoor Nationals, as well, since the first event was held in 2017. This year's leaderboard in Charleroi featured once again two teams from Italy.

However, the participation at the event was still heavily impacted by the implications of the corona virus crisis in Europe. The number of teams was down to six, after the record numbers in 2018 with 13 AAA and 8 AA Class teams in Charleroi, including the NMP PCH HayaBusa indoor world champions.

Regular visitors from Italy: Synergy
Only AAA Class teams competed at the 2019 event in December, shortly after NMP PCH HayaBusa returned from the CISM World Championships in Wuhan, China, and the corona virus crisis began to leave its mark on the whole planet. Belgian did not hold indoor or outdoor championships in 2020, and this year's competition was a new attempt to attract 4-way teams back to the same location.

The FAI Indoor World Cup was originally scheduled for April 2021 at Airspace in Charleroi, and it was canceled and rescheduled the same way as the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020, which was eventually held in August this year.

The new event date for the indoor world cup in Charleroi is April 2022. The Belgian Indoor Nationals came obviously still a little bit too early for Belgian teams and visitors from other European countries, even though there has been a momentum for comeback events everywhere.

The same momentum will hopefully bring a new record number of 4-way teams to the indoor world cup in April.

NMP PCH HayaBusa - ISR FireFlash at the Belgian Indoor Nationals 2018
4-way awards at the Belgian Indoor Nationals 2021
The field of six teams earlier in December did not include any of the Belgian world class teams that have been impressing the 4-way world in the past years and generated a serious 4-way momentum in Belgium alone. NMP PCH HayaBusa and ISR FireFlash members are regularly coaching Belgian teams and competitors and keep their eyes on the progression of the new 4-way generations.

In fact, NMP PCH HayaBusa recently recruited their newest team member, Neal Willems, from this pool of new and young Belgian skydivers, as the NSL News reported on December 17th.

This year's winner in Belgium was actually a guest team, with a combination of team members from Belgium and the Netherlands. Bart Daenen is a member of the Dutch national 4-way team Out Of The Blue and competed with his own team at the FAI Tanay Mondial 2020.

Steven Lopes has been training and competing with Jetmax since the team was formed in 2013. Jetmax competed at each indoor championship since 2017 and also decided with all other missing teams to skip this year. Arne Vandendael has been coaching Belgian AA Class team High Voltage, who attended the event in Charleroi for the Belgian duel in this category.
