posted Jan 10th, 2022 - The battles between 4-way and 8-way teams at competitions are not only taking place at the top parts of the leaderboards, even though the best teams in the countries and in the world get naturally most of the attention. Even the smallest meets may have exciting duels and races between any teams for the higher positions at the end of the competition.

The USPA Nationals, as the biggest national championship event in the world, usually features several of these battles, either on the top of the leaderboards or at any other spots.

The NSL News updates have pointed out as many of the most exciting parts of the U.S. national championships as possible, and there is still hardly an end to finding new interesting situations that have not caught much attention. No matter how much these exciting parts of the competition are pointed out or not, the involved teams usually enjoy their own internal rivalries, with or without any attention to their performances.

The NSL News covered the two exciting battles for the USPA gold medals and for the 3rd place in the Intermediate Class competition comprehensively on 17 November 2021. The gold medal competition turned out with a 1-point advantage for the winner, while Air Force Atlas and SDC Rhebellion XP even needed a jump-off round to break their tie for the bronze medals. The teams in 1st and 4th place were separated by 11 points after Round 10.

The even closer competition on the Intermediate Class leaderboard took actually place not far behind the medal positions. There was a total of six teams who were separated by only ten points, and this special part of the leaderboard included even two ties at the end of the competition.

There are usually no jump-offs to break any ties behind the medal positions at Formation Skydiving competitions, and the four Intermediate Class teams at the USPA Nationals had to accept the shared ranking positions. Combat Turkey and CK PetriCKor finished together in 7th place, Hammer Hammer and Cinnamon Roll Fighting Club in 9th place.

The total of 86 points was last year's number for the last spot in the Top 10 of the Intermediate Class. Organized Kaos was a part of this exciting 6-team competition and missed the Top 10 by two points.

Perris Fall Risk won or tied most of the highscores in this area of the Intermediate Class leaderboard and took the 6th place three points ahead of the next contenders. The 5th place was out of reach for any of the six teams in this battle for the five open slots in the Top 10.

Perris Fall Risk had posted a 9.2 average in their competition test at the September meet of the Southern California Skydiving League. The same lineup had finished two points ahead of Organized Kaos after the six rounds in Perris a month before the USPA Nationals.

The same duel of the two teams from California took place again in Eloy, where the difference increased to ten points. Both teams were a part of the same 6-team battle for the Top 10 spots.

The Intermediate Class field at USPA Nationals is large enough to take a closer look beyond the medal positions alone. One of the Top 10 positions is a meaningful accomplishment if the total number of teams is close to 30. The USPA Nationals 2021 attracted a total of 27 teams to the Intermediate Class competition.

Hammer Hammer and Cinnamon Roll Fight Club managed to leave Organized Kaos behind by two points, while each of the three teams tied one of the highscores for a round in this 6-team battle. The next teams on the Intermediate Class leaderboard were not too far behind, and Limbo XP in 14th place actually outscored all six Top 10 teams in Round 9.
