Did You Know...

... that iFLY Dallas finished on top and with a record number despite a December flaw?

ICL Leaderboard of the 2013 season
posted Jan 14th, 2022 - The 2021 leaderboard of the Indoor Cloud League is complete, after the last missing scores and videos from iFLY Dallas have now been added. Unfortunately, the 2021 season sets a negative record, with 39 monthly submissions and ICL point totals.

The first year of the corona virus crisis, the 2020 season, left already a big dent in the ICL wind tunnel world, with 42 monthly submissions. The impact of the pandemic on 4-way indoor training and competition becomes obvious by comparing the numbers with the last ICL season before the pandemic in 2019, when 67 ICL teams posted scores and videos.

It was the first time since the separation of the 12+ and 14+ leaderboards in 2016 that only one ICL team managed to post scores and videos for all twelve months of the ICL season. In fact, it has never happened in the entire history of any Indoor Cloud League leaderboards since 2013 that there was only one team with a complete annual scoring record.

The NSL News had pointed out with the ICL update on 6 December 2021 that Kyle Hermberg's iFLY Dallas team was on the way to set its own new scoring record. The Dallas team followed up with a total of more than enough ICL points for December to maintain the top spot for the 2021 leaderboard.

New team: Dallas Distraction
The iFLY Dallas team was the one and only ICL team this year with scores for each month, even though it was not a flawless finish. Kyle Hermberg had submitted complete sets of six videos for the six ICL categories month by month until December, when this iFLY Dallas consistency was eventually interrupted.

There was a good reason behind the missing score for the R Class sequence though. Kyle Hermberg had a video for the R Class sequence, which was performed by three ICL competitors who he evaluated as too experienced for the easiest of the three Rookie Class categories.

He decided to keep the video in the iFLY Dallas archives and finish the 2021 season with only five scores and a total of 94 points for December, which was still more than enough for the new scoring record and to maintain the top spot on the 2021 leaderboard.

The ICL rules include scoring limitations for two of the three Rookie Class sequences (R - RR), which are applied regularly. The iFLY Dallas score for the R Class could not be higher than 25 points, however, Kyle Hermberg decided to follow the spirit of the ICL mission and accepted a missing score at the very last month of the year.

iFLY Dallas Indoor Cloud League highscores in December
New team: Dallas Valkyrie
The internal iFLY Dallas leaderboard begins to look more like the one of the Hurricane Factory, where only complete teams compete with each other for the monthly highscores. The recruitment of new indoor participants, mostly Czech 4-way juniors, happen at an even earlier stage.

Kyle Hermberg has a similar purpose in his ICL world in Texas. He is aiming at attracting new participants to 4-way training and competition and then educating them consistently. The events of the Indoor Cloud League match his goals, and several of the earlier participants have now formed their own teams or joined others.

There was actually only one lineup in December with ICL competitors who do not train or compete together as a 4-way team. Dallas Dynasty and Dallas Distraction both have been a result of the ICL events in Texas, and the new Dallas Valkyrie lineup has followed on the same path.

Dallas Dynasty members have been working with all other participants at ICL events for a while, and they are also assisting the newer teams with their guidance. All three teams plan to compete at the Paraclete XP Indoor Championship in February, where Dallas Dynasty placed 2nd in the AA/Intermediate Class last year. It will be the first visit at Paraclete XP for Dallas Distraction and Dallas Valkyrie.
